Job Profile: Graphic Designer (Events & Experiential Projects)

A Graphic Designer in an event-focused environment is responsible for conceptualizing and designing all visual elements required for conferences, exhibitions, corporate shows, brand activations, and large-scale events. This role demands a strong understanding of spatial design, event branding, print production, and real-world application of graphics across different surfaces, materials, and formats.

Key Responsibilities

Event Theme & Visual Identity Creation

2.     Create master design frameworks for multiple event touchpoints (backdrops, stage designs, standees, etc.).

Venue & Spatial Branding

o   Design large-format graphics:

o   Stage backdrops

o   LED wall content templates

o   Flex, fabric, and vinyl prints

o   Wayfinding and directional signage

o   Registration counters

o   Photo-op setups / Selfie points

o   Understand site measurements, print constraints, and fabrication compatibility.

On-Screen & Digital Event Content

a.     Create presentation templates, agenda screens, lower thirds, holding slides, etc.

b.     Design screen content optimized for LED walls/projectors (various aspect ratios).

c.     Prepare animations or motion elements (if skilled).

Corporate Event Collateral

a.     Design invitations, event brochures, agenda books, name badges, certificates, table cards, tent cards, etc.

b.     Ensure visual consistency across printed and digital materials.

c.     Print Production Knowledge

d.     Prepare print-ready artwork with bleeds, color profiles, correct scaling, and fabrication guidelines.

e.     Coordinate with printers to ensure correct output.

f.      Troubleshoot print-related issues (pixelation, color mismatch, material limits).

Measurement-Based Designing

a.     Work on exact measurements given by production/technical teams.

b.     Ensure designs fit actual fabrication structures without distortion.

Collaboration With Event Teams

a.     Work closely with: 

  • Production Manager
  • Fabrication Vendor
  • Stage & Set Designer
  • Client Servicing Teams
  • Understand client briefs and adapt design styles accordingly.

Rapid Turnaround & Multi-tasking

a.     Events often have tight deadlines—designer must produce high-quality work quickly.

b.     Manage multiple event projects at once.

Version Control & File Management

a.     Maintain organized folders, naming conventions, and version histories.

b.     Deliver packaged files for production teams.

c.     Required Skills & Competencies

d.     Software Skills

e.     Adobe Photoshop (mandatory)

f.      Adobe Illustrator (mandatory)

g.     Adobe InDesign (for brochures & manuals)

h.     CorelDRAW (commonly used by printers & fabricators)

i.      After Effects/Premiere (bonus for LED content & animations)

Technical Competencies

a.     Strong understanding of bleeds, safe zones, print resolution, CMYK vs RGB

b.     Ability to design at large scales (20 ft, 40 ft, etc.) without pixelation

c.     Awareness of fabrication materials: flex, sunboard, vinyl, fabric, acrylic, LEDs

d.     Creative Competencies

e.     Strong sense of layout, color theory, and visual hierarchy

f.      Ability to create event themes that look premium and cohesive

g.     Adaptable design style based on industry/client expectations

Behavioural Competencies

a.     Ability to work under pressure

b.     Fast execution without compromising quality

c.     Good communication & teamwork

d.     Receptive to feedback and last-minute changes (common in events)
