General Manager Materials

Role & responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end Materials Management, including Procurement, Stores, Inventory Control, and Vendor Development
• Develop and execute strategic sourcing and purchasing strategies aligned with business growth and profitability
• Ensure timely availability of RM, RTA, bought-outs, and consumables as per PPC and production plans
• Maintain optimal inventory levels and achieve inventory days targets
• Drive cost reduction initiatives, value engineering, and negotiation with suppliers
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key and strategic suppliers
• Implement supplier evaluation systems, reduce vendor PPM, and improve quality performance
• Forecast price and market trends to manage supply risks and opportunities
• Prepare and manage annual materials budgets, forecasts, and CapEx proposals
• Ensure compliance with customer, statutory, and legal requirements
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing materials team with clear KPIs
• Strengthen MIS, ERP/SAP reporting, and data-driven decision-making
• Support new business initiatives, capacity expansion, and greenfield projects
• Coordinate closely with Production, PPC, Quality, Finance, and Engineering teams

Education:
• BE / B.Tech Mechanical Engineering (Mandatory)

Experience:
• 16–25 years of experience in Materials / Procurement / Supply Chain • Strong exposure to engineering/hydraulics / heavy manufacturing industry • Proven leadership experience managing large procurement and stores teams

Technical & Functional Skills:
• Strategic sourcing & vendor development • Inventory optimization & PPC coordination • Strong negotiation & commercial acumen • ERP / SAP-based materials management systems • Budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
