Product Costing Engineer-Hydraulic Cylinder

Role & responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed cost sheets for hydraulic cylinders based on design and customer specifications
• Evaluate raw material requirements and calculate costs for tubes, rods, seals, and other components
• Estimate machining, fabrication, heat treatment, surface finishing, plating, and assembly costs
• Prepare cost comparisons for in-house vs. outsourced operations
• Analyze supplier quotations for materials and bought-out items to ensure cost competitiveness
• Coordinate with Design and Production teams to validate manufacturability and optimize designs for cost efficiency
• Support the Sales team with accurate product costing during quotation and tender preparation
• Perform variance analysis against actual costs and suggest corrective measures
• Monitor cost trends in raw materials, labour, and overheads, and update costing databases regularly
• Ensure costing complies with company profit margins and strategic pricing objectives
• Contribute to process improvements to reduce manufacturing costs without compromising quality

Preferred candidate profile

The Product Costing Engineer will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for hydraulic cylinders, covering raw materials, machining, fabrication, assembly, testing, and overheads. The role involves analyzing data, optimizing costs, ensuring competitiveness, and supporting the sales and design teams in delivering precise quotations to customers.

• Bachelors degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
• 36 years of experience in product costing, preferably in hydraulic cylinders, heavy engineering, or precision manufacturing
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, fabrication, welding, honing, chrome plating, and assembly
• Proficiency in MS Excel/SAP systems for costing and data analysis
• Familiarity with CAD drawings and the ability to read technical specifications
• Analytical mindset with strong cost optimization and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication and coordination across departments
