We're hiring a Finance Operations- Contractor to support our growing finance operations. In this role, you ll take ownership of monthly payroll processing, ensure full compliance with local regulations, working on month close and accounting and work cross-functionally to maintain seamless and accurate operations. This is a key role supporting both the Finance and People teams, and will report directly to our VP of Finance.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, values precision, and takes pride in delivering consistently reliable results especially during transitions, audits, or growth periods.
What You ll Do:
Responsibilities include but not limited to

Manage and run end-to-end payroll processing for India-based employees and/or contractors.

Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws, labor regulations, and internal controls.

Partner with Finance, People Ops, and external vendors to reconcile payroll and resolve discrepancies.

Support payroll-related onboarding and offboarding processes, including final settlements and tax documentation.

Process changes in compensation, bonuses, deductions, and variable pay components.

Maintain and audit payroll records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Respond to employee payroll inquiries with clarity, empathy, and confidentiality.

Assist in mapping payroll accounting to departments and cost centers.

Contribute to ad hoc initiatives such as audits, system updates, new system implementations and year-end reporting.

Take up tasks on finance support tasks as needed, based on team priorities.

Take up tasks on accounting, reconciliations and other tasks as bandwidth permits.
Who you are:

MBA or equivalent qualification in Finance & HR, or related field.

5+ years of hands-on payroll experience in India along with experience in working in AP/AR/System automation etc. (experience with international payroll is a plus).

Strong knowledge of Indian tax laws, statutory compliance, and payroll best practices.

Proficiency in payroll systems like Keka, Grethr, RazorpayX, or similar tools.

High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and comfort working with numbers and spreadsheets.

Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.

Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a remote-first environment.
