Job Description

We invite applications from experienced practitioners for faculty positions in Continuing Legal Education to be part of the School of Continuing Education and University Resource Centre (SCE-URC). Location: Bhopal and Ranchi The School of Continuing Education and University Resource Centre (SCE-URC) is responsible for in-service programmes in the areas of education, human and social development, and organizational and professional skills. The SCE-URC for development aims to significantly enhance the capacity of the development ecosystem, which comprises of elected representatives, government functionaries, and civil society at large. Its primary role is to build perspectives, competencies and practical skills, which are relevant to different sets of stakeholders across all levels. Programmes will be offered across all thematic areas of human and social development. Responsibilities: This role is focused on, Imparting continuing legal education (CLE) to enable professional development for lawyers across the country, who are working on access to justice for vulnerable communities. This will entail skill and perspective building pertaining to legal changes, clinical aspects of the law, legal theories and ethics. Building capacity development programmes for a cadre of para-legals through suitable institutional partners, to enhance access to legal counsel and support, by the more vulnerable. Developing a faculty pool (Training of Trainers model) to ensure wider reach. Teaching and training in various programmes under SCE-URC, which require an understanding of law, constitution and rights-based lens, in courses related to Governance, Gender Justice, Child Rights, Constitutionalism, Democracy etc. Design Stage: Design, develop, and deliver high-quality training programmes based on stakeholder needs. Collaborate with experts and teams to co-create effective learning experiences. Customize, curate, and enhance learning materials to align with objectives. Develop curriculum outlines and session plans, with the aim of building perspectives as well as practice competencies. Education and Training Stage: Orient visiting faculty and organisational leaders on the purpose of the course. Lead capacity-building for participants (lawyers, paralegals, faculty/​master trainers). Foster a community of practice, as required. Assessment and Monitoring: Monitor content effectiveness and address gaps for continuous improvement. Ensure timely availability and submission of participant data and training reports. Contribute to assessment tool and assessment process for participant learning and skills. Build New Courses: Be part of conversations and initiate processes to assess capacity needs of different stakeholders. Over time, build a portfolio of offerings that respond to the emerging needs of stakeholders for the SCE-URC-Dev. Others: Contribute to other programmes in the University, and particularly in SCE-URC, related to wider capacity development needs of stakeholders. Requirements: Master’s degree, preferably in Law, Legal Studies, or a related social science discipline. At least eight years of experience in training, capacity building, curriculum development, learning experience design, and implementation support for programmes related to law and legal issues, and/​or experience undertaking litigation and mentoring lawyers. Ability to design and develop curriculum / material in English and Hindi and conduct short courses in English and Hindi, for frontline functionaries of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on access to justice, and specifically lawyers. Basic experience in monitoring learning outcomes. Ability to reflect and think critically. Good oral and written communication skills in English and Hindi. Willingness to travel extensively and work collaboratively and in teams. Desirable Specialisations in one or more specific thematic areas such as laws relating to children, women, dalits and adivasis, labour, and other vulnerable groups, or on land, forest, social security and other entitlements. Experience in implementing programmes in the broad area of access to justice. Experience in litigation. Strong networks within Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) across India working on access to justice. Experience of working with government sectors.
