Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented

Graduate Engineer Trainee (Mechanical)

to join our Product Development team. The candidate will gain hands-on experience in

design engineering, structural component development, DFMEA, prototyping, and testing

while supporting cross-functional teams in delivering projects. This role provides exposure to end-to-end

product development activities, project management, and value engineering initiatives

.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in product development activities including concept generation, design & development, planning, prototyping, and testing.
  • Work on mechanical engineering projects related to thermal systems, combustion, heat transfer, and structural load-bearing components.
  • Support in conducting DFMEA, DVP, and test plan development.
  • Assist in prototyping, design verification, validation, and pre-production testing.
  • Collaborate with global Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and cross-functional teams to deliver projects adhering to Ingersoll Rand’s Product Development Process.
  • Understand and apply FEA/CFD modeling insights and interpret CAE reports to improve product performance.
  • Contribute to risk assessment, design reviews, and pilot production activities.
  • Support VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) projects, should costing, and product teardowns.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain design documentation, technical reports, and project deliverables.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals (thermal, combustion, heat transfer, materials science).
  • Exposure to structural, sheet metal, plastic, casting, and machining design.
  • Familiarity with Pro/E (Creo) modules – Part, Sheet Metal, Assembly, Drawing.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and multidisciplinary product design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using engineering tools and techniques.
  • Good communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills (Good To Have)

  • Exposure to CAE tools (FEA, CFD) and ability to interpret analysis reports.
  • Experience in prototyping, testing, and validation.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, DVP, and 6-Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with VAVE and cost optimization techniques.
