Engineer - Procurement/Purchase (Renewable Energy Projects)

The Engineer Purchase shall be responsible for end-to-end procurement of materials and services required for solar ground-mounted, rooftop solar, and small hydro power projects. The role involves vendor development, techno-commercial evaluation, negotiations, order placement, expediting, and coordination with projects, engineering, and finance teams to ensure timely and cost-effective material availability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Material Planning

• Understand project BOQs, drawings, and technical specifications for solar and small hydro projects.
• Plan and execute procurement of electrical, mechanical, civil, and BOS materials as per project schedules.
• Prepare material requirement plans (MRP) in coordination with project and planning teams.

2. Vendor Management & Development

• Identify, evaluate, and develop approved vendors for renewable energy materials.
• Maintain vendor database for modules, inverters, structures, cables, transformers, panels, turbines, valves, penstock materials, etc.
• Conduct vendor techno-commercial discussions and assessments.

3. Techno-Commercial Evaluation

• Float RFQs / RFPs to vendors based on approved specifications.
• Perform techno-commercial comparison of offers and prepare comparative statements.
• Ensure compliance with MNRE / DISCOM / IEC / IS standards and project-specific requirements.

4. Negotiation & Order Finalization

• Negotiate prices, delivery schedules, payment terms, warranties, and liquidated damages.
• Finalize

  Purchase Orders / Work Orders

  in line with company policies.
• Ensure cost optimization without compromising quality and timelines.

5. Order Tracking & Expediting

• Track PO execution, manufacturing status, dispatch, and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate with logistics teams for

  transportation, insurance, and delivery to site

• Resolve delays, shortages, or quality issues proactively.

6. Coordination & Documentation

• Coordinate with

  engineering, QA/QC, site teams, and finance

  for smooth material flow.
• Ensure proper documentation including

  POs, delivery challans, test certificates, warranties, invoices, and GRNs

  .
• Support audits and MIS reporting related to procurement.

7. Cost Control & Compliance

• Monitor procurement costs against approved budgets.
• Ensure adherence to

  company procurement policies and statutory requirements

• Support claims, replacements, and vendor performance evaluations.

Materials Handled (Indicative)

Solar Projects

• Solar PV modules, inverters (string & central).
• Module mounting structures (fixed & tracker).
• DC/AC cables, connectors, junction boxes, DCBD / ACDB, SMB’s, etc.
• LT/HT panels, transformers, RMUs.
• SCADA, weather stations, meters.
• Earthing & lightning protection materials, etc.

Small Hydro Projects

• Turbines, generators, governors.
• Penstocks, valves, gates, fittings.
• Switchgear, transformers, control panels.
• Civil and electromechanical accessories.

Qualifications

• B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma

  in Electrical / Mechanical / Renewable

Experience

• 4 - 6 years

  of relevant experience in procurement for

  renewable energy or EPC projects.

• Hands-on experience in

  solar EPC / hydro / power infrastructure projects

  preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of

  renewable energy systems and components.

• Techno-commercial negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of

  GST, Incoterms, logistics, and contracts.

• Proficiency in

  MS Excel & MS Word.

• Excellent coordination and communication skills.
• Ability to work under

  project timelines and cost pressures.
