Key Responsibilities:1. Nutritional Assessment & Counseling:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' nutritional status by reviewing medical histories, lab results, and dietary habits.
- Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans based on patient needs, diagnoses, and goals (e.g., weight management, diabetes, heart disease).
- Provide counseling to patients and families on how to make healthy food choices, improve dietary habits, and manage specific health conditions.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of dietary interventions and adjust plans as needed to achieve desired health outcomes.
2. Clinical Nutrition Support:
- Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive appropriate nutrition support during hospitalization or treatment.
- Assist in the development of therapeutic diets for patients with special needs (e.g., enteral feeding, parenteral nutrition, or low-sodium diets).
- Educate hospital staff on the importance of nutrition in patient care and recovery.
3. Education & Training:
- Provide individual and group nutrition education sessions for patients, families, and community groups.
- Conduct classes or seminars on topics such as healthy eating, disease prevention, and weight management.
- Train and mentor dietetic interns or junior staff members in clinical and community nutrition practices.
4. Menu Planning & Evaluation:
- Work with food service teams to design and evaluate hospital menus, ensuring that they meet the nutritional needs of patients across all stages of care (acute, rehabilitation, long-term).
- Review and modify menus to accommodate patient dietary preferences, allergies, or medical conditions.
- Ensure that the hospital’s food offerings comply with industry standards, government guidelines, and best practices.
5. Research & Policy Development:
- Stay updated on the latest nutrition research and evidence-based practices to inform patient care and dietary recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of policies related to patient nutrition, food safety, and dietary interventions.
- Participate in clinical research studies related to diet, nutrition, and health outcomes.
6. Administrative & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting all assessments, care plans, and progress in the appropriate systems.
- Complete documentation in compliance with hospital policies, regulatory agencies, and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the hospital’s nutrition services.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or specialized certifications (e.g., Certified Nutrition Support Clinician) is a plus.
- Licensure:
- Current registration as a Dietitian (RD) with the [insert country or state's] regulatory board (e.g., Commission on Dietetic Registration in the U.S.).
- State licensure (if required by local regulations).
- Experience:
