Role Overview:

DevOps Team Leader

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership (Must-Have)

A. Architecture & Infrastructure Design

• Design scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud architectures


• Decide between ECS, EC2, Lambda and other compute models


• Plan VPC, networking, subnets, routing, and security groups


• Define autoscaling strategies and capacity planning for high-traffic systems


• Set standards for deployment, monitoring, logging, and security

B. Expertise in Core DevOps Tools

Must be strong in:

• Terraform

  (module design, infra provisioning)



• Docker

  (image optimization, container best practices)



• AWS ECS/Fargate

  architecture and cost optimization



• CI/CD Pipelines

  using GitHub Actions / GitLab CI/CD



• Nginx, Apache

  , reverse proxy, caching, SSL


• CloudWatch dashboards, log routing, alarms


• Ability to review and approve technical solutions and pipelines

C. Troubleshooting & Incident Resolution

Ability to quickly diagnose:

• ECS task failures


• Deployment issues


• Performance bottlenecks


• Terraform state issues


• SSL, DNS, routing, OOM/CPU spikes


• CDN caching, network-level issues

Should guide the team toward permanent, root-cause solutions.

2. Project & Delivery Ownership

A. Planning & Work Allocation

• Break down project needs into actionable tasks


• Allocate work based on strengths and growth goals


• Ensure accurate timelines and delivery commitments

B. Quality & Standards

• Review Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and infra changes


• Enforce SOPs and best practices across all deployments


• Maintain consistency and reliability across environments

C. Release & Risk Management

• Define release cycles and deployment windows


• Oversee pre/post deployment checks


• Identify infra, security, cost, and performance risks early

D. Documentation Leadership

Ensure the team properly maintains:

• Infra diagrams


• Change logs


• SOPs and runbooks


• RCA documentation


• Deployment & security checklists

3. Cost, Automation & Future-Ready Mindset

A. Cost Optimization

Regularly monitor and optimize:

• Spot vs On-demand


• ECS/Fargate vs EC2


• Autoscaling and capacity


• S3/storage lifecycle policies


• Log retention and monitoring costs


• Reserved and savings plans

B. Automation First

Ensure automation for:

• CI/CD build, test, deploy, rollback


• Terraform provisioning


• Backups & cert renewals


• Alerts and log routing


• Repetitive operational tasks

C. AI/ML Deployment Awareness (Good to Have)

• GPU instance selection and scaling


• Deploying inference servers (Triton, ONNX, etc.)


• Model versioning & rollback

4. Team & People Leadership

A. Mentoring & Upskilling

• Conduct training and knowledge-sharing sessions


• Provide constructive feedback and code reviews


• Support learning paths and empower team ownership

B. Strong Communication

Ability to confidently communicate with:

• Developers, QA, PMs


• CTO/CEO


• Clients (when required)

Should explain infra decisions, risks, downtime, and cost impacts in simple terms.

C. Ownership & Decision Making

• Lead during incidents

D. Conflict Resolution

• Resolve Dev vs DevOps conflicts constructively

5. Incident Management & RCA Leadership

• Lead major outages and production issues


• Own and validate Root Cause Analyses


• Ensure preventive actions are implemented


• Conduct post-incident reviews and improvements

6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Track modern DevOps tools, security practices, observability and container technologies


• Suggest improvements for cost, deployment speed, and reliability


• Reduce manual processes through automation


• Drive DevOps roadmap and modernization efforts
