DevOps Engineer Lead

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

●      Deploy and manage cloud and on premise technical computing services that support our product development team.

●      Build automation tools to support the software development and network operations teams.

●      Proactively observe engineering practices and recommend systems to solve problems or alleviate pain points.

●      Work closely with both internal and external software development resources, as well as IT/network operations, and the users of our solutions.

●      Work in and improve an Agile environment.

●      Deliver timely project execution and project work products that exceed customer expectations.

●      Contribute to functional specifications and detailed design documents for client projects.

●      Serve as a technical expert for client projects.

●      Research industry trends and emergent technologies to be used upon recommendation.

●      Excellent understanding of technology life cycles and the concepts and practices required to implement effective information systems.

●      Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to speak knowledgeably with members of both the business and development teams.

●      Solid understanding of web development environments, sufficient to understand the implications of issues within web-based applications.

●      Train less experienced members and guide the progression of DevOps fundamentals.

●      Periodically step into a leadership role as needed. 

●      Maintain ownership and improve upon the CI/CD pipeline.

●      Research and develop potential solutions to identified inefficiencies in DevOps processes.

●      Review software development processes and provide developers with technical guidance and code reviews.

Detailed Work Activities

●      Structure and design the software configuration management system.

●      Research and automate the software build process.

●      Automate software deployment and monitoring.

●      Implement and research methods to reduce downtime/friction when moving production-ready products out.

●      Automate software testing at multiple levels (component, configuration, subsystem, system) and monitor all results.

●      Research methods to improve site stability, performance, availability, and troubleshoot site issues.

●      Develop and research methods to reduce CI\Error notification times.

●      Research and recommend infrastructure changes to meet increasing demand.

●      Collaborate with software developers and engineers to bring new features and services into production.

●      Provide support to development teams who use the automated infrastructure.

●      Research and evangelize new techniques to streamline the development processes for the various departments.

●      Review and approve operational practices and procedures.

●      Oversee and ensure compliance with department/company regulation regarding software development.

●      Research and select best security practices.

●      Develop and maintain a high availability of company cloud system resources and components.

●      Use strong networking, server, database, scripting, and other IT engineering skills.

●      Ability to effectively work independently and with others throughout the entire product life cycle.

●      Operate efficiently in a DevOps team-based environment.

●      Driven by overcoming challenges and leading teams.

●      Develop innovative ideas that will bring our products to higher levels.

●      Use computer programming and/or scripting languages. (Java, C#, PowerShell, VBScript, etc)

●      Advanced understanding of networking paradigms and concepts.

●      Manage a multitude of localized and cloud based data storage solutions.

●      Work closely with software teams to improve code infrastructure and offer solutions during reviews.

●      Exercise project management skills to create and schedule tasks to complete business objectives.
