About this Position:

The person will be responsible for overseeing the safety, health and environment management systems on project sites, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations and minimizing risks. This role involves developing and implementing safety protocols, conducting regular risk assessments, and leading safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety. The Construction Safety Manager will have to proactively identify hazards, investigate incidents, and provide ongoing training, all while supporting the safe and efficient completion of construction projects. What you´ll do:

  • Develop and implement the Construction Safety Plan, ensuring alignment with project SHE objectives, statutory requirements, and Henkel SHE policies to ensure zero incidents across all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee and enforce construction safety protocols including fall protection, excavation safety, scaffolding, confined space entry, hot work, and equipment safety, ensuring all site activities adhere to best practices and legal requirements.
  • Lead contractor safety management by pre-qualifying contractors, reviewing their safety procedures, ensuring orientation and training, and monitoring compliance with safety standards throughout the construction phase.
  • Construction Techniques & Processes: Understanding of key construction activities such as earthworks, structural, electrical, mechanical, and finishing works.
  • Provide safety input during facility siting and construction layout reviews, identifying potential risks related to plant design, access, egress, material movement, and emergency response infrastructure.
  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities by ensuring all safety requirements are met before energization, start-up, and operation. This includes involvement in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), system walkthroughs, and readiness assessments.
  • Conduct regular site safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments, documenting findings, and ensuring timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage incident reporting and investigations, lead root cause analysis (RCA), and ensure effective follow-up and closure of action items.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and awareness programs tailored to the needs of construction personnel, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Monitor compliance with PPE usage and verify the functionality of all safety-critical systems, such as fire suppression systems, alarms, safety showers, and emergency exits.
  • Facilitate Job Safety Analysis (JSA), HAZOP, and Management of Change (MOC) processes, ensuring safety risks are identified and mitigated before changes or high-risk tasks commence.
  • Track and report safety performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular updates to project leadership on safety trends, improvements, and compliance status.

What makes you a good fit:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering is mandatory, along with an Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS) from CLI or RLL
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE), with significant exposure to construction safety management.
  • Proven experience in liaisoning with statutory authorities, including handling permissions, renewals, and amendments with DISH, MPCB, Fire office, MIDC, etc.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH, or ISO Auditor certification are preferred. - Candidates with previous experience in hazardous chemical, paints, or core pharmaceutical manufacturing industries is highly desirable
  • Candidate should have strong knowledge and understanding of SHE standards, construction activities, and statutory compliance requirements related to construction safety, including regulatory and industry-specific standards with excellent communication skills
