Role & responsibilities
The role is responsible for supervising all period close activities including, ensuring profit and loss (P&L) and balance sheet journals are updated within the general ledger (GL), reconciling, and validating balances whilst resolving any disputes. Manages and leads a team of finance professionals including qualified accountants, reporting to the Manager Record to Disclose (R2D) / Record to Report (R2R).
Maintain the aims and objectives of the FSS to deliver excellent customer service by embedding high standards and principles, streamlining, automating, and improving processes whilst removing duplication and inefficiency.
Operational management:
- Embody our company values, including coaching team members, providing constructive and timely feedback whilst ensuring training and developmental needs are met
- Proactively lead a team of accounting professionals and ensure they successfully achieve work plans
- Supervise:
- Internal control of effective routine process compliance/transition of financial accounting against performance and SLA targets
- Maintenance of detailed procedural documentation for financial accounting activities
- Accuracy of recording of financial transactions and timely submission of records
- Daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly review and analysis of bank, fixed assets and balance sheet reconciliations to validate the balances
- Monthly intercompany sign-offs and dispute resolution
- Prepare frequency-based management information reports
- Journal creation, posting and analysis, including accruals and prepayments
- Lease accounting and reconciliation
- Manages complex client rebates processes, mitigating risks, where required
- Responsible for:
- Monitor and publish performance dashboards leveraging agreed KPIs and SLAs. Work closely with team members to identify training needs, escalating where necessary
- Act as the first point of escalation for the team. Oversee the resolution of complex exceptions queries and issues to optimise team performance and stakeholder experience. Escalate any unresolvable issues to the Manager - Record to Disclose where necessary
- Work with business stakeholders to coordinate new work baskets go lives and implementations
- Answer internal queries from line of business and cross functional teams
- Proactively identify and respond to continuous improvement opportunities including advising and participating in improvement projects
- Build and maintain relationships with all HBS FSS leadership to ensure holistic understanding of the HBS organisation and how best to serve our customers
Leadership & culture management:
- Foster a culture of high-quality performance and continuous improvement throughout our process; drive employee engagement and achieve productivity commitments
- Plan, coordinate and review the work plan for all assigned employees and proactively seek feedback and resolve any concerns, issues or grievances
- Drive discipline across financial processes and provide professional accounting leadership
- Lead by example and ensure positive interactions internal and external business stakeholders
Ensure all process documentation including standard operating procedures (SOPs) are created and maintained
Preferred candidate profile
- Proven experience of supervising a team including effective communications, identifying training needs and developing both team and self over 3-6 years
- Post graduate Finance degree achieving 50%+ average score. Masters and or MBA preferred
- 8 to 14 years of demonstrable experience including:
- Closing and reporting, GL accounting and Financial Planning and Accounting
- Accruals and prepayments booking, fixed assets, banking & intercompany reconciliations
