Data Center Technician

• A Data Center Technician installs, maintains, and monitors data center hardware like servers, networking equipment, and cabling. Key duties include troubleshooting hardware and network issues, performing physical maintenance and upgrades, and responding to alerts to ensure the data center's 24/7 availability and security. The role requires a combination of technical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with other IT teams and vendors. Key responsibilities
• Installation and setup: Physically install and configure servers, racks, network devices, and cabling according to data center standards.

Required skills and qualifications

• Technical proficiency: Strong understanding of servers, network infrastructure, hardware, and cabling.
• Problem-solving: Ability to systematically diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, vendors, and clients.
• Attention to detail: Meticulousness in performing tasks to avoid errors that could cause downtime.
• Physical ability: Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, such as lifting and installing heavy equipment.
• Education and certifications: A degree in a related field or equivalent experience is often required. Certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or CCNA can be beneficial.
• Monitoring and maintenance: Continuously monitor hardware and systems for performance issues, and perform routine maintenance and repairs to prevent outages.
• Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues related to servers, networks, and power/mechanical systems, including replacing faulty components.
• Documentation and compliance: Document processes, update tickets, and ensure all hardware and security protocols comply with company standards.
• Security: Implement and monitor security measures, protect data, and collaborate with cybersecurity professionals to prevent breaches.
• Physical upkeep: Perform tasks like cable management, switch port optimization, and data center audits.
• Support: Provide "remote hands" support for external vendors, escort visitors, and respond to on-call alerts as needed, sometimes on a rotating shift basis.
