Position Overview:


Crisis Helpline Responder

The role involves providing immediate, empathetic, and professional support through phone, chat, or text while ensuring safety, stabilization, and linkage to further care or emergency response if required.

This position requires strong emotional resilience, crisis intervention skills, and adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Respond promptly and compassionately to individuals in crisis through helpline channels (phone, chat, text).
  • Provide

    trauma-informed, client-centered, and nonjudgmental

    crisis intervention using de-escalation and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Support callers experiencing:
  • Suicidal ideation, self-harm, or emotional breakdown
  • Domestic or intimate partner violence
  • Sexual assault or abuse
  • Substance use crises or withdrawal distress
  • Grief, loss, or bereavement
  • Severe anxiety, panic, or trauma-related distress
  • Other urgent or high-risk psychological situations
  • Conduct

    risk and safety assessments

    , including suicide lethality evaluations and immediate harm assessment
  • Make real-time triage decisions, including referral to emergency services or escalation protocols
  • Develop and implement

    crisis management or safety plans

    collaboratively with callers.
  • Provide information and

    referrals

    to appropriate mental health, legal, shelter, or medical resources.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of all calls, interventions, and referrals in accordance with HappiMynd’s data protection policies..
  • Ensure

    smooth handovers

    between shifts and uphold continuity of care.
  • Participate in

    team meetings, supervision, and debriefing sessions

    to ensure responder well-being and service quality.
  • Stay updated with best practices in

    crisis counselling, suicide prevention, and trauma-informed care

    .


Qualifications & Experience:


Essential Requirements

  • 1–3 years

    of experience in crisis helplines, counselling, or mental health intervention (paid or voluntary).
  • Completed or ongoing

    training in Crisis Intervention, Suicide Prevention, or Trauma-Informed Care.

  • Strong emotional stability and capacity to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high empathy and active listening ability.
  • Proven decision-making ability in high-risk or emotionally charged scenarios.
  • Proficiency in communication in

    English and/or regional Indian languages.

  • Comfortable working in a

    remote, technology-enabled environment.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in

    Psychology, Counselling, or Allied Mental Health disciplines.

  • Additional certifications such as

    Mental Health First Aid.

  • Experience in working with survivors of trauma, abuse, or addiction.
  • Familiarity with crisis documentation or case management systems.
