We work closely with artisans, craft communities, and design partners to bring authentic, sustainable, and beautifully crafted home decor and lifestyle products to global audiences. Handscart is based between Paris and Jaipur. Winner of French Tech Ticket and various global programs.


Craft Designer & Merchandiser



Role Overview


concept design, product development, artisan coordination, merchandising, and home décor styling



Key Responsibilities


Design & Product Development


  • Create concepts, sketches, and design mock-ups for home décor, handicrafts, and lifestyle products.
  • Work closely with artisans and local craft clusters to translate designs into final products.
  • Research materials, craft styles, and upcoming trends in Indian and global home décor.
  • Develop collections based on seasons, festivals, and global market demand.


Merchandising & Portfolio Management


  • Curate and manage product assortments for the online Handscart marketplace.
  • Ensure consistency in product quality, pricing, and brand story.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, artisans, and production teams for timelines and sampling.
  • Analyse sales patterns, customer behaviour, and craft trends to refine product strategy.


Home Decor & Styling


  • Assist in visual storytelling, photoshoots, mood boards, and display setups.
  • Create lifestyle imagery concepts to showcase Handscart products online and on social media.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of colour palettes, textures, and interior design principles.


Collaboration & Documentation


  • Maintain product specifications, costing sheets, design libraries, and artisan records.
  • Work with marketing teams on launch campaigns, craft stories, and product narratives.
  • Build long-term relationships with artisans, craft partners, and sourcing vendors.



Skills Needed


  • Strong background in

    Craft Design, Textile Design, Interior Design, or Product Design

    .
  • Knowledge of Indian crafts—woodwork, textiles, pottery, metal, handmade décor, etc.
  • Experience in

    merchandising, sourcing, or artisan collaboration

    is a plus.
  • Creative eye with ability to conceptualize unique product ideas.
  • Proficiency in design tools (Photoshop, Canva, Illustrator) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Design / Craft / Fine Arts / Fashion / Interior Design (preferred).
  • 0–3 years of experience in crafts, home décor, merchandising, or similar fields.
  • Freshers with strong portfolios are welcome.
