Chemist – QC & R&D

Industry Preference: Organic chemicals / Agrochemicals / Pesticides / Specialty Chemicals

1. Role Overview

The Chemist – QC & R&D will be responsible for conducting routine and advanced analytical testing of organic chemicals, pesticide formulations, and raw materials, ensuring strict quality compliance. The candidate will also support new product development, method development, and process improvement activities within the R&D department. The position demands strong analytical expertise, hands-on experience with instrumental analysis, and sound knowledge of chemical quality systems.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Quality Control (QC) Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, intermediates, finished products, and stability samples.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative testing using instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV–Vis Spectrophotometer, FTIR, and other relevant analytical tools.
• Prepare and standardize reagents, reference standards, calibration curves, and internal quality standards.
• Maintain accuracy, precision, and compliance in test results according to SOPs, COAs, and regulatory guidelines.
• Ensure timely QC release of batches and communicate deviations, OOS, and non-conformities to supervisors.
• Maintain laboratory records, logbooks, and documentation as per GLP & ISO 9001/17025 standards.
• Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with safety and quality systems.

B. R&D Responsibilities

• Support method development and method validation for organic chemicals, botanical extracts, and pesticide formulations.
• Assist in developing new formulations, optimizing extraction/purification processes, and improving product quality.
• Conduct laboratory-scale experiments, maintain experimental data, and prepare technical reports.
• Work with cross-functional teams (Production, QA, Regulatory) for technology transfer and scale-up activities.
• Contribute to innovation projects related to chemical synthesis, natural extracts, semiochemicals, and eco-friendly formulations.
• Engage in troubleshooting analytical problems and improving testing protocols.

3. Technical Skills Required:

Solid hands-on experience with:

• HPLC (Reverse Phase, Normal Phase, Gradient systems)
• GC / GC-MS
• UV–Vis Spectrophotometer
• FTIR, pH meters, refractometers, titrators
• Strong understanding of:
• Organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, pesticide chemistry
• Chemical impurities, degradation pathways, and stability studies
• GLP, cGMP, NABL/ISO 17025 documentation
• Ability to troubleshoot instrument issues and coordinate service/AMC when needed.

4. Soft Skills & Competencies

5. Educational Qualification

• M.Sc. in Chemistry / Organic Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry / Pesticides & Agrochemicals OR
• B.Sc. Chemistry with 7+ years of strong analytical experience in relevant industry.

6. Additional Preferred Criteria

• Experience in pesticide QC, botanical extracts testing, supercritical CO₂ extract analysis, or agrochemical formulation QC.
• Knowledge of chromatogram interpretation, impurity profiling, and method validation parameters.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as Insecticides Act 1968, BIS standards, CIBRC guidelines (preferable but not mandatory).
