About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Battery & Power Systems Engineer to design, evaluate, and optimize the energy systems that power our UAVs, UGVs, and robotics platforms. This role will focus on maximizing endurance, enhancing safety, and ensuring efficient energy management under diverse operational conditions.You will work closely with the Embedded, Electronics, and Mechanical teams to develop robust, high-performance battery systems tailored for autonomy and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Battery System Design & Optimization:
- Design and evaluate battery packs tailored for drones, ground vehicles, and robotic platforms, including Li-ion, LiPo, and advanced chemistries.
- Optimize cell selection, configuration, and battery architecture for energy density, discharge rates, and thermal performance.
- Develop and validate Battery Management Systems (BMS) for monitoring health, charge cycles, and fault management.
Thermal Management
- Design and implement thermal management solutions (passive/active cooling) to prevent overheating under continuous load.
- Simulate and test for thermal stability in extreme environmental conditions.
Power System Architecture
- Define end-to-end power distribution architecture, including DC-DC converters, power protection, and redundancy.
- Collaborate with embedded engineers to integrate power optimization algorithms and energy-efficient firmware.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure battery systems meet international safety standards (UN 38.3, IEC standards, ISO 26262 for functional safety).
- Implement protection circuits, fail-safes, and monitoring systems to prevent short circuits, overcharging, and thermal runaway.
Testing, Validation & Lifecycle Management
- Conduct rigorous testing for battery performance, lifecycle, and reliability.
- Establish diagnostics and predictive maintenance strategies for deployed battery systems.
Research & Advanced Technologies
- Evaluate emerging battery technologies (solid-state batteries, hybrid energy systems, supercapacitors).
- Explore opportunities for hybrid power systems (battery + fuel cell) for extended mission profiles.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Electrochemistry, or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience in battery system design, power electronics, or energy management, preferably in drones, robotics, or automotive.
- Strong understanding of: Battery chemistry & cell characteristics, BMS hardware & firmware, Thermal analysis and heat management, Power electronics and converters, Simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS).
- Experience with compliance standards and safety certifications for battery systems.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with UAV/UGV operational constraints and mission-specific power optimization.
- Knowledge of hybrid energy systems (battery + alternative energy).
- Hands-on experience with battery testing equipment and diagnostics tools.
