JOB PROFILE: OPTOMETRIST (B.OPTOMETRY)

Location: Radiante Multispeciality Skin & Laser Centre
Address: Om Vihar, Opp. Metro Pillar No. 702, Uttam Nagar, New Delhi
Job Type: Full-time / Part-time (as per clinic requirement)
Department: Eye Care / OPD
Reporting To: Clinical Director / Ophthalmologist

1. Job Summary

The Optometrist will be responsible for providing high-quality vision care services, conducting detailed eye examinations, assisting in OPD operations, managing patient counselling, and supporting the ophthalmologist during procedures. The role focuses on delivering accurate diagnostics, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining clinical standards.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations (vision testing, refraction, slit-lamp examination).
  • Perform Keratometry, Tonometry, Retinoscopy, and Fundus screening.
  • Diagnose refractive errors and prescribe corrective lenses.
  • Screen for cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other ocular conditions.
  • Assist the ophthalmologist in minor and major eye procedures.
  • Prepare pre-operative and post-operative patients.
  • Provide counselling for LASIK, cataract, dry eye, and other eye treatments.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.

Patient Handling & OPD Management

  • Manage patient flow in the Eye OPD.
  • Educate patients on eye care, contact lens hygiene, and preventive eye health.
  • Operate diagnostic machines (Auto-Refractometer, OCT, Visual Field, NCT).
  • Provide after-care instructions for medications and procedures.

Administrative & Centre Responsibilities

  • Ensure cleanliness and sterilisation of eye equipment.
  • Assist in health camps, awareness programs, and CSR Eye Check-Up Events.
  • Coordinate with front desk for appointments and reporting.
  • Support marketing initiatives for Eye OPD promotions.

3. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Optometry (B.Optom) from a recognized institute.
  • Minimum 0–3 years of clinical experience (freshers can apply).
  • Strong communication and patient-handling skills.
  • Familiarity with advanced ophthalmic equipment.

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP)OPTOMETRIST – RADIANTE MULTISPECIALITY SKIN & LASER CENTRE Purpose

To establish a standard workflow for Optometrists to ensure efficient patient care, accurate diagnosis, and smooth OPD operations.

A. Daily Workflow SOP1. Pre-OPD Preparation (Before Patients Arrive)

  • Switch on and calibrate ophthalmic equipment (AR, Slit Lamp, NCT).
  • Ensure cleanliness and sterilisation of lenses, trial sets, occluders, chinrests.
  • Check availability of patient forms, consent forms, and diagnostic sheets.
  • Review OPD schedule and prepare the day’s patient list.

2. Patient Examination ProcessStep 1: Patient Registration & History

  • Verify patient details through the front desk.
  • Take medical & ocular history (glasses, contact lenses, systemic issues).

Step 2: Visual Examination

  • Conduct visual acuity test for both eyes.
  • Perform objective and subjective refraction.
  • Perform tests:
  • Slit lamp evaluation
  • Tonometry
  • Retinoscopy
  • Fundus screening (if required)

Step 3: Diagnosis & Recording

  • Document findings in EMR / manual record.
  • Highlight abnormalities for ophthalmologist review.

Step 4: Patient Counselling

  • Explain diagnosis, refractive error, and treatment recommendations.
  • Educate on lens options, contact lens hygiene, post-procedure care.

Step 5: Referral to Ophthalmologist

  • Refer cases needing medical/surgical intervention.

B. OPD Support SOP

  • Prepare patients for minor procedures (foreign body removal, syringing, etc.).
  • Assist the doctor during diagnostic procedures.
  • Record post-procedure information and issue instructions.
  • Track follow-up appointments.

C. Equipment SOP

  • Daily cleaning of slit lamp, AR, tonometer probes.
  • Weekly deep-cleaning and maintenance checklist.
  • Report equipment malfunction immediately to management.

D. Documentation SOP

  • Maintain detailed case sheets for every patient.
  • Ensure accurate data entry of refraction values and diagnostic findings.
  • Prepare daily OPD reports and submit to management.

E. Patient Safety SOP

  • Follow infection control protocols.
  • Use gloves and sanitise lenses before every patient.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

F. Health Camps SOP

  • Assist in camps organised by the centre.
  • Perform quick screening (VA, AR, IOP, refraction).
  • Provide patient counselling and refer cases to centre.

G. Closing SOP (End of Day)

  • Shut down all machines properly.
  • Clean and cover equipment.
  • Refill diagnostic supplies if needed.
  • Submit OPD report and next-day requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹28,000.00 per month
