Job Description – Associate Professor (Child Health Nursing)

1. Position Overview

The Associate Professor (Child Health Nursing) is a senior academic role responsible for leading the Pediatric Nursing Department, delivering advanced teaching, supervising research, managing academic operations, maintaining INC/TNNMC compliance, and supporting institutional development. This position requires strong leadership, teaching expertise, and administrative capabilities.

2. Key Responsibilities
A. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities

• Deliver advanced theory classes for B.Sc, P.B.B.Sc, and M.Sc Nursing (Child Health).
• Lead curriculum design, syllabus structuring, and academic planning for the department.
• Prepare advanced teaching materials: lesson plans, presentations, study guides, and exam blueprints.
• Evaluate student performance through internal assessments, assignments, and viva voce.
• Ensure high standards of academic delivery and student engagement.

B. Clinical Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate student postings in:
• Pediatric Ward
• PICU
• NICU
• Pediatric Outpatient Clinics
• Immunization & Well-Baby Clinics
• Demonstrate complex pediatric nursing procedures and ensure student competency.
• Supervise clinical instructors and ensure proper clinical documentation.
• Maintain relationships with affiliated hospitals for pediatric postings.

C. Research & Professional Development

• Guide UG and PG students in:
• Research topic selection
• Proposal development
• Data collection
• Statistical analysis
• Thesis writing
• Conduct departmental research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Organize and participate in workshops, conferences, and CMEs.
• Encourage students to present papers and attend academic events.

D. Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities

• Support the HOD in managing departmental operations and staff coordination.
• Lead committees such as:
• IQAC Sub-Committee
• Clinical Coordination Committee
• Research & Ethics Committee
• Examination Cell
• Maintain academic files mandated by INC & TNNMC.
• Prepare documentation for accreditation, inspections, audits, and internal reviews.
• Participate in timetable preparation, workload distribution, and budgeting.

E. Student Mentorship & Support

• Provide academic counseling and guidance to nursing students.
• Handle student grievances related to academics or clinical postings.
• Promote discipline, professionalism, and ethical practice among students.

3. Required Qualifications

• M.Sc Nursing (Child Health / Pediatric Nursing) – Mandatory
• Valid TNNMC Registration
• Minimum 5 years of teaching experience after M.Sc Nursing
• Experience as Assistant Professor for at least 2 years (as per norms)

5. Salary Range

• Rs. 40,000 – 55,000 per month
