Job Purpose The Safety Manager will lead our Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) initiatives across our steel processing and heavy engineering operations.
Key Responsibilities
Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive safety strategies aligned with corporate objectives, emphasizing proactive risk management and continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable safety regulations and standards, ISO 45001, and local statutory requirements. Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct thorough hazard identification and risk assessments; implement effective control measures to mitigate identified risks. Incident Management: Lead investigations of accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; develop and oversee the implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Training & Development: Design and deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels, promoting awareness and competence in safety practices. Safety Audits & Inspections: Plan and execute regular safety audits and inspections; monitor compliance and drive corrective actions for continuous improvement. Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans; conduct drills and training to ensure readiness for potential emergencies. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and engineering, to integrate safety considerations into all aspects of operations. Performance Monitoring: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety; report on safety performance to senior management and stakeholders.
Education & Experience
Education: Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field; Masters degree preferred. Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH, or equivalent.
Experience: 15 18 years of progressive experience in safety management roles within steel processing or heavy engineering industries. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in industrial safety management, with a proven track record of implementing robust safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of safety excellence.
Background, Skills and Competencies
Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and safety management systems. Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams; strong communication and interpersonal skills. Analytical Skills: Proficient in analyzing safety data, identifying trends, and implementing datadriven improvements.
Preferred Attributes
Experience in implementing Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs. Familiarity with advanced safety technologies and digital tools for safety management. Proven track record of reducing incident rates and improving safety culture. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
