Job Description

Purpose/Objective

The AFR Incharge is responsible for managing the sourcing, evaluation, and integration of alternative fuels and raw materials into the cement production process. This role ensures that alternative fuels meet quality and environmental standards, optimizing their use to reduce reliance on conventional fuels. The AFR Incharge also manages relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, driving innovation and continuous improvement in AFR usage.

Key Responsibilities of Role

AFR Program Management: Develop and implement strategies for the sourcing and utilization of specific alternative fuels such as RDF, biomass, and tire-derived fuel (TDF). Oversee the evaluation and integration of new alternative fuels, ensuring they meet the necessary chemical and calorific requirements for efficient clinker production. Strategic Planning and Resource Optimization: Increase the use of alternative raw materials, including fly ash, slag, and other industrial by-products, to optimize the clinker-to-cement ratio. Collaborate with the production and procurement teams to optimize the usage of alternative fuels, reducing reliance on coal and other conventional fuels. Regulatory Compliance and Environmental Stewardship: Ensure that the utilization of alternative fuels and raw materials complies with environmental regulations, particularly regarding emissions and waste management. Work with environmental agencies to ensure the plant's co-processing activities align with national and international standards for sustainable waste management. Supplier and Stakeholder Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers of alternative fuels, such as waste management companies, agricultural biomass providers, and industrial by-product producers. Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure the seamless integration of alternative fuels and raw materials into the production process. Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Track and report on the performance of alternative fuels, including their impact on energy efficiency, clinker quality, and emissions. Provide detailed reports to senior management on the financial and environmental benefits achieved through the use of specific AFRs. Team Leadership and Development: Lead the AFR team, providing technical guidance on the properties and processing of various alternative fuels and raw materials. Conduct training sessions on the handling, storage, and use of specific AFRs, such as RDF and biomass, to ensure safe and efficient operations. Cost Management and Budgeting: Manage the budget for alternative fuel procurement, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maximizing the substitution rate of traditional fuels. Identify opportunities for cost savings through the optimized use of waste-derived fuels and by-products. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Explore new technologies for processing and co-processing alternative materials, such as gasification or advanced combustion techniques. Lead initiatives to enhance the efficiency of using specific AFRs, improving their contribution to overall plant performance. Health, Safety, and Risk Management: Ensure that all activities related to AFRs adhere to health and safety standards, particularly when handling hazardous materials like waste oils and solvents. Implement risk management strategies for the storage and processing of alternative fuels, focusing on preventing spills, fires, and environmental contamination. Internal Controls and Governance: Implement robust controls to prevent inefficiencies and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate governance standards in the use of AFRs. Maintain comprehensive documentation for auditing purposes, including records of material testing, supplier certifications, and environmental impact assessments.
