Works Manager – Machining and Fabrication Shop

Job Summary:

Responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the machining and

fabrication shop to meet production, quality, and delivery targets.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Plan & supervise machining/fabrication to meet production goals.

·       Optimize use of manpower, machines, and materials.

·       Coordinate with planning/design teams for production schedules.

·       Oversee CNC, conventional lathe, milling, welding machines, and fabrication activities.

·       Ensure quality, safety, and productivity on the shop floor.

·       Coordinate maintenance for equipment (preventive & breakdown).

·       Manage inventory of raw materials, tools & consumables.

·       Implement lean manufacturing & continuous improvement practices.

·       Ensure compliance with ISO, ASME, and customer standards.

·       Coordinate with QA/QC for inspections.

·       Train and mentor shop floor staff.

·       Enforce safety, cleanliness, and 5S practices.

·       Liaise with design, procurement, and dispatch for workflow efficiency.

Key Skills & Competencies:

·       Strong technical knowledge of machining & fabrication processes.

·       Leadership & team management capabilities.

·       Familiarity with TIG, SMAW welding techniques.

·       Knowledge of ISO 9001 / ASME quality standards.

·       Ability to read engineering drawings/process sheets.

·       Strong communication & problem-solving skills.

·       Production planning and timely execution expertise.

Qualifications & Experience:

·       Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech – Mechanical Engineering.

·       15–20 years in machining/fabrication, including 5+ years in a managerial role.

·       Experience with Tig and SMAW welding preferred.
