Position Title: Welding Supervisor – Night Shift
Department: Production / Fabrication
Reports To: Production Manager / Fabrication Manager
Location: Steel Fabrication Yard / Workshop
Shift: Day/Night Shift
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Welding Supervisor – Night Shift is responsible for supervising and controlling all welding activities during the night shift in a steel fabrication environment. The role ensures that welding work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with approved welding procedures, quality standards, and production targets. The Supervisor will manage night-shift manpower, maintain welding quality, and ensure seamless coordination with day-shift teams.

Key Responsibilities (KRA)

1. Welding Supervision & Execution

  • Supervise all welding activities during the night shift, including SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, SAW, or other applicable processes.
  • Ensure welding is executed strictly as per approved WPS, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assign welding jobs to welders based on qualification, certification, and skill level.
  • Monitor joint preparation, fit-up, welding parameters, and welding sequence.

2. Night Shift Manpower Management

  • Lead and control welders, welding helpers, and contract manpower during the night shift.
  • Ensure proper attendance, discipline, productivity, and adherence to shift schedules.
  • Conduct night-shift start-up briefings and end-of-shift handover documentation.
  • Coordinate with day-shift supervisors to ensure continuity of work and smooth handover.

3. Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure welding quality complies with applicable standards and codes (IS / AWS / ASME, etc.).
  • Perform visual inspection of welds during night operations.
  • Coordinate with QC for NDT requirements and timely rectification of welding defects.
  • Control weld rejection, repairs, and rework during the night shift.

4. Safety Management (Night Operations)

  • Enforce welding safety rules, fire prevention measures, and PPE usage during night shift operations.
  • Conduct toolbox talks focusing on welding hazards, night visibility risks, and fatigue management.
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of welding machines, gas cylinders, cables, and consumables.
  • Report incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions immediately to the Safety Officer and Management.

5. Welding Consumables & Material Control

  • Monitor and control usage of welding electrodes, wires, flux, shielding gases, and accessories during the night shift.
  • Ensure proper storage, baking, and issue of electrodes as per procedure.
  • Minimize consumable wastage and unauthorized usage.
  • Coordinate with Stores for night-shift material requirements.

6. Equipment & Tool Management

  • Ensure welding machines, electrode ovens, gas cutting sets, and accessories are operational during night hours.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance teams for breakdown support and preventive maintenance follow-up.
  • Ensure electrical safety, proper earthing, and safe cable routing in night operations.

7. Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate with Production, QC, Safety, Planning, and Maintenance teams for night-shift activities.
  • Prepare and submit night-shift welding progress reports, manpower deployment, and consumable usage reports.
  • Highlight delays, quality concerns, manpower shortages, or safety risks to management.
  • Support audits, inspections, and project requirements related to night-shift production.

  • Night-shift welding productivity
  • Weld rejection and rework percentage
  • Compliance with WPS and quality standards
  • Safety performance during night operations
  • Consumable usage and wastage control
  • Timely completion of assigned night-shift welding targets

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: ITI / Diploma in Welding, Mechanical, or related trade
  • Experience: 5–10 years in steel fabrication welding, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role
  • Industry Exposure: Heavy steel fabrication, structural steel, shipyard, industrial or EPC projects

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of welding processes and standards
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings and welding symbols
  • Practical understanding of WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications
  • Proven capability to manage night-shift operations independently
  • Good communication, coordination, and reporting skills
  • High level of safety awareness and decision-making ability

Working Conditions

  • Shop-floor and fabrication yard–based role
  • Exposure to welding heat, fumes, heavy equipment, and outdoor conditions
  • Mandatory permanent night shift role, including extended hours based on production requirements

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
