Due Diligence Mortgage Underwriter

, you will play a critical role in evaluating residential mortgage loan files to ensure credit quality, regulatory compliance, and overall risk integrity. This role requires a strong understanding of underwriting guidelines, documentation standards, and risk assessment frameworks, along with the ability to work with precision in a detail-intensive environment. You will contribute directly to informed lending decisions by ensuring each loan file meets defined client, legal, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Review residential mortgage loan files to ensure all required documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with underwriting standards
  • Perform detailed credit reviews, including assessment of income calculations, asset verification, and adherence to underwriting guidelines
  • Identify potential fraud risks by reviewing borrower information, background checks, and supporting credit documentation
  • Evaluate property appraisals and alternative valuation products to confirm accuracy and compliance with specified requirements
  • Examine legal documents to ensure proper execution, enforceability, and adequacy for title perfection
  • Capture and validate regulatory compliance data elements from loan files within due diligence systems
  • Analyze servicing histories by reviewing payment records and servicing notes in line with defined client standards
  • Assign credit risk grades using established grading criteria and due diligence tools, aligned with client and rating agency requirements

  • You demonstrate strong written communication skills, supporting clear documentation of findings and risk assessments
  • You manage time effectively, handle multiple files simultaneously, and maintain consistency under tight timelines
  • A bachelor's or master's degree, along with exposure to servicing reviews or credit rating agency standards, strengthens your ability to succeed in this role
