  1. Job Purpose:
  • The SPOC for Analytics and Digital Transformation will oversee all aspects of the analytics function and digital initiatives, including long-term strategy, ideation, and execution. The primary focus will be on leveraging digital technologies, such as IoT, for data democratization and statistical analysis, while building recommendation systems to enhance operational effectiveness, strategic procurement, and supplier performance. This role will involve analyzing business processes, identifying opportunities for automation, and defining success measures for projects. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be crucial in evaluating and prioritizing automation opportunities. The incumbent will provide actionable recommendations based on data analysis and maintain solution design documents (SDDs) outlining the automation approach. Additionally, the role requires leading solution implementations, managing project budgets, facilitating meetings, and coordinating issue resolution among stakeholders. Lastly, developing user acceptance test procedures will be essential to ensure successful project outcomes.

  1. Job Context & Major Challenges

Job Context :

Hindalco Muri Works, located near Ranchi, is a critical unit responsible for producing both standard and special-grade alumina. This alumina serves as the core raw material for other plants that manufacture aluminum and related products. Any disruption in Muris alumina supply would result in the shutdown of these downstream plants, making it a vital link in the production chain. The Muri site comprises a refinery and a captive power plant, along with key infrastructures such as residential complexes, a hospital, a school, a canteen, and other essential facilities.

IT function

Muri IT is providing ongoing all IT and digital support for the new White Fused Alumina (WFA) project at Aditya, which is currently under development with 33 users and is expected to be completed within the next two years.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage all digital transformation and automation initiatives in Manufacturing Operations and Logistics, ensuring alignment with the Unit s digital strategy.
  • Work closely with business teams to shape, define, and execute analytics solutions that drive operational effectiveness, strategic procurement, performance optimization, and factory analytics.

  • Take full responsibility for ideating, planning, and executing digital initiatives, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of automation solutions within the Muri Unit.
  • Engage with senior leadership and functional heads across various departments (Sales, Marketing, Procurement and Customer Service) to ensure the digital initiatives meet business goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes through automation, recommending and implementing data-driven solutions to enhance operational efficiency and asset optimization.
  • Facilitate collaboration between teams to evaluate, prioritize, and implement business process automation solutions, ensuring seamless integration into daily operations.
  • Present progress and results of digital initiatives to senior management, ensuring that the impact on manufacturing and supply chain operations is well communicated and understood.
  • Develop solution design documents and lead the implementation of digital initiatives, managing project budgets, timelines, and stakeholder expectations effectively.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinating between multiple departments (Manufacturing, Procurement, Sales, Marketing, etc.) to ensure alignment and smooth execution of digital transformation initiatives.
  • Resource and Budget Constraints: Balancing ambitious digital initiatives with the available resources, budgets, and timelines, while maintaining operational efficiency and cost control.
  • Ensuring Data Security and Compliance: Implementing digital solutions while ensuring robust data security measures and adhering to regulatory requirements such as ISO standards.

Regularly assess and optimize ongoing digital initiatives, defining key performance indicators (KPIs) and measuring the success of implemented solutions to drive continual improvements.
