SUMMARY

Role Overview:

The Team Lead General Accounting & Taxation will be responsible for overseeing and managing key accounting and taxation functions within the Center of Excellence (COE). The role involves ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, book closure, taxation compliance, and leading the Indian accounting functions for Embark's clients. This includes driving operational excellence, managing the team, and ensuring compliance with Indian regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership of Accounting and Taxation Functions

Lead and provide strategic direction for General Accounting and Taxation functions.
Drive standardization, process improvements, and best practices across all accounting and tax-related processes.
Monitor service delivery, ensuring high-quality outcomes across teams.

2. General Accounting (GAAP and Indian Accounting Standards)

Oversee the integrity and accuracy of General Ledger (GL) entries across business units.
Ensure timely posting, validation, and reconciliation of GL entries based on Indian GAAP and Ind AS (Indian Accounting Standards).
Review and ensure accounting treatments are aligned with Indian accounting regulations and standards.

3. Month-End / Year-End Closing & Reporting

Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closing processes for clients.
Ensure deadlines are met with accuracy and completeness, maintaining Indian accounting standards.
Coordinate cross-functional teams to resolve issues impacting the closing process.

4. Taxation Compliance and Reporting

Oversee compliance with Indian tax regulations, including GST, Income Tax, and TDS (Tax Deducted at Source).
Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns and manage tax audits and assessments.
Provide insights and recommendations to leadership on taxation-related matters, ensuring alignment with Indian tax laws.

5. Financial Reporting & Management

Prepare and review financial reports (MIS, management reports, variance analysis, etc.).
Ensure reports comply with Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) and regulatory guidelines.
Support leadership with insights, analytics, and actionable recommendations based on financial data.

6. Reconciliations & Statutory Schedules

Oversee the preparation and review of account reconciliations, ensuring alignment with statutory requirements.
Drive timely resolution of discrepancies and strengthen internal controls.

7. Financial Statements & Audit Support

Oversee the preparation of standalone and consolidated financial statements in line with Indian accounting standards.
Coordinate with internal and external auditors for tax audits, statutory audits, and internal audits.
Ensure timely closure of audit queries and implementation of recommendations.

8. Compliance & Controls

Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and tax-related requirements under Indian laws.
Strengthen internal controls to mitigate risks and support ongoing risk management initiatives.
Stay updated on changes in Indian accounting standards, tax regulations, and other relevant compliance requirements.

9. Team Management & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary finance team specializing in accounting and taxation.
Establish KPIs, provide performance feedback, and support professional development of the team.
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.



Requirements

Skills & Competencies:


Strong technical knowledge in general accounting and taxation, especially in the Indian context.
In-depth knowledge of Indian GAAP, Ind AS, GST, Income Tax, and TDS.
Hands-on experience in managing large-scale finance operations across general accounting and taxation.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
Proven experience in leading teams and managing cross-functional projects.

Education & Experience:

Mandatory: Chartered Accountant (CA) with a focus on Indian taxation and Indian accounting standards.

Preferred: Experience working in a Center of Excellence (COE) or Shared Services environment.
Experience in managing diverse finance functions, including general accounting and taxation, particularly under Indian regulations .
