Surge Analysis & Protection Expert - Hydraulic Transients

We are seeking a highly skilled Surge Analysis & Protection Expert with more than 10 years of hands-on experience in hydraulic transient (water hammer) analysis for large-scale water supply, irrigation, urban infrastructure, hydropower, and pipeline systems.

Hydraulic Surge Modelling:

• Conduct detailed hydraulic transient analysis (pump trip, valve closure, power failure, air pocket dynamics, column separation, pipeline rupture scenarios).
• Develop and calibrate surge models using tools such as:
• Bentley Hammer
• WANDA
• AFT Impulse / Fathom
• KYPIPE / Surge
• Interpret and validate surge results for high-pressure and long-distance pipelines.

Surge Protection System Design:

• Design and size surge vessels, air valves, pressure relief valves, vacuum breakers, bypass systems, hydropneumatics tanks, and control devices.
• Prepare surge mitigation concepts, layout drawings, technical specifications, and bill of quantities.
• Optimise surge protection cost vs. performance for water supply, irrigation, hydro-mechanical and petroleum pipelines.

Technical Studies & Documentation:

• Prepare DPR/Feasibility reports, design reports, model summaries, and risk assessments.
• Provide technical inputs for tender documents, EPC contracts, and project proposals.
• Support design teams in pipeline hydraulics, pumping systems, and operational strategies.

Field Support:

• Perform site visits for data collection, pipeline inspection, operational assessment, and validation of surge protection systems.
• Provide troubleshooting for surge-related operational issues.

Capacity Building:

• Conduct internal and client training on surge modelling, pipeline safety, and transient mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Water Resources Engineering.
• Master’s degree in Hydraulics / Water Resources / Fluid Mechanics preferred.
• 10+ years of proven experience in surge analysis and pipeline protection design.
• Proficiency in industry-standard surge modelling software.
• Strong understanding of pump system hydraulics, pipeline design, valve operation, and SCADA considerations.
