Job Purpose:
The Maestro/Steward is responsible for providing excellent customer service to guests, ensuring their dining experience is enjoyable and seamless. In addition to serving food and beverages, the role may involve assisting with bussing, setting up tables, and supporting other front-of-house team members. As a trainee, the steward is expected to learn the restaurant’s operational standards and protocols, with an emphasis on enhancing their knowledge and skills for growth within the role.
Key Responsibilities:
Food & Beverage Service:
Greet and seat guests promptly, making them feel welcome and comfortable.
Take accurate food and beverage orders, answering questions about the menu and making recommendations.
Deliver food and beverages to guests in a timely and efficient manner.
Ensure that food and drink items are served with appropriate garnishes, accompaniments, and in accordance with restaurant standards.
Guest Interaction & Satisfaction:
Provide friendly, attentive service to guests, anticipating their needs and ensuring their satisfaction.
Handle guest complaints and concerns professionally and escalate issues to the Sr. Maestro/Steward as necessary.
Upsell menu items and promote daily specials to enhance guest experience and increase sales.
Bussing & Table Maintenance:
Assist with clearing and resetting tables between guests to maintain a clean and organized dining area.
Help with carrying and delivering food from the kitchen to the dining area, ensuring proper presentation and accuracy.
Maintain cleanliness of service areas, including clearing dirty dishes and replacing utensils when necessary.
Training & Skill Development:
Participate in training sessions to enhance food knowledge, service skills, and operational understanding.
Actively engage in the training process to grow within the role and demonstrate readiness for career advancement.
Assist in setting up and maintaining the front-of-house service station, ensuring all supplies are stocked and equipment is in working order.
Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with other front-of-house staff to ensure smooth operations.
Assist in floor service as needed, including supporting other team members during peak times.
Operational Support:
Ensure that the dining area remains clean, neat, and organized throughout the shift.
Assist with setting up and breaking down the service area before and after shifts.
Communicate effectively with the kitchen staff to ensure order accuracy and timely service.
Competencies and Requirements:
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with guests and team members effectively.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a focus on quality service.
Strong attention to detail in order accuracy and service presentation.
Experience:
Previous experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in hospitality or food service.
No formal leadership experience required, but interest in growth within the role is expected.
Personality Traits:
Friendly, approachable, and energetic with a passion for customer service.
Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and improve.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle pressure during peak service times.
Training & Development:
On-the-Job Training:
Participate in food and beverage service training, learning the restaurant's menu, service standards, and operational procedures.
Work closely with Trainee Maestro and Sr. Maestro to gain experience and improve service skills.
Growth Potential:
Opportunity to advance to a full Server role and potentially move into leadership positions such as Sr.Maestro/Steward as skills and experience develop.
