Major Duties

1. Nursing staff should be well dressed with hair closed, proper ID card, short nails without nail paints, etc.

2. Nursing staff should follow all the hospital protocol.

3. Nursing staff should be punctual for duty.

4. In case of any leave, prior intimation is required. Intimation in the form of leave application will be accepted with proper HOD sign.

5. To direct patient care.

A) Staff responsible for holistic care of patient.

B) Staff responsibility starts from Admission and discharge of patient.

C) To maintain personal hygiene of patient including bathing, care of mouth, back care, nail care, hair bath and hygiene etc.

D) Care of pressures points as needed.

E) To assist the patient in elimination, feeding the weak and debilitated patient

F) Assist in physiotherapy, ambulation and rehabilitation.

G) Carry-out patients teaching and demonstration according to need.

H) Care of dying and dead.

I) Administration of medicines and injections to the patient after verifying rights of medication administration with proper counter sign from senior nurse.

J) Observing, recording and reporting of vital signs.

K) Carry out technical procedure as nasogastric gavage and lavage, oxygen therapy, dressing, irrigation enema, cauterization, hot and cold application, suction etc.

L) Collecting, labeling and dispatch of specimens.

M) Preparation for and assistance in clinical tests and medication preparation.

N) Attend to the nutritional needs of the patient.

O) Maintain clean and safe environment for the patient.

P) Co-ordinates patient care with other team member.

Q) Take rounds with the doctors when called to list new orders and see that they are carried out.

6. To check all electrical points are in working condition.

7. To carry out the duties as instructed by the unit in-charge.

8. To follow the waste management protocol.

9. To autoclave and disinfect necessary articles, instruments linen, gadgets, equipment s, etc. and keep ready for use.

10. To check all electrical points, pipe line, oxygen, in built suction for proper working condition.

11. To communicate with concerned person for proper maintenance of units.

12 .To prepare the drugs, crash trolley, dressing trolley with proper record.

13. To check monitor, ventilator and all lifesaving gadgets for proper working condition.

14. To fumigate the department periodically.

15. To keep records of all the procedure of patient neatly.

16. To ensure to make the ward clean and tidy including bed.

17. To keep all articles well-arranged and maintain the inventory.

18. To be vigilant to protect the patient the patient from injury or accident by providing side rail.

19. To make round with doctors and senior nursing officers.

20. To help In-charge sister in indenting and checking of drugs, supplies and maintaining inventories.

21. To update with nursing knowledge by taking part in-service education program.

22. To maintain the record for all the quality indicators within the department and notify any incident with proper incident form

23. To maintain healthy environment and co-operate to other colleagues in the department.

24. To maintain scheduled poisonous drug registers.

25. To help the department nursing in charge to carry out his/her work or act as ward in-charge during their absence.
