Sr. Manager / Manager - Port, Distribution & Warehouse Management

• Oversees the entire process of moving goods through a seaport and coordinating their onward delivery and the entire flow of products from arrival (port/warehouse) to final delivery, focusing on efficiency, cost, and timeliness, managing warehousing, transportation, inventory (finished goods), staff, carrier negotiations, and ensuring compliance and customer satisfaction, using systems like WMS/TMS for tracking and optimizing the full order cycle. This role combines aspects of logistics, operations management, and compliance with national and international maritime regulations.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Operations Management: Oversee daily port operations, including cargo handling, vessel loading/discharge, and the use of heavy equipment and machinery. Manage all inbound (port/customs) and outbound logistics, warehousing, inventory (finished goods), and transportation functions.

• Logistics Coordination: Plan and coordinate delivery schedules, optimize transportation routes (including rail, road, and sea), and manage the full order cycle to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.

• Inventory and Warehouse Management: Monitor stock levels, manage warehouse operations, and ensure efficient space utilization to meet customer demand and minimize costs. Oversee accurate inventory management, cataloging, and warehouse layout to ensure stock availability and efficient order picking/dispatch.

• Compliance and Safety: Ensure strict compliance with national and international maritime rules, customs regulations, and health and safety procedures. This often involves handling specific documentation like bills of lading and customs forms.

• Staff Leadership: Manage, lead, train, and motivate a team of operational staff, supervisors, and drivers, allocating resources effectively to meet operational needs.

• Stakeholder Communication: Liaise and negotiate with a variety of stakeholders, including shipping companies, customs authorities, freight forwarders, suppliers, and customers, to resolve issues and ensure seamless operations.

• Performance Analysis and Improvement: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

• Budgeting and Finance: Control operational and financial budgets, monitor transportation costs, and handle billing and payment processes.

• Order Fulfilment: Direct the full order cycle, from processing orders to final delivery, optimizing routes and shipment schedules.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with sales, procurement, and production teams to align logistics with business goals.

Preferred candidate profile

MBA in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is typically required. Professional certifications from organizations like the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) can also be beneficial.

1. Experience of 8-12 years of relevant experience in port operations, logistics and warehouse management is mandatory.

2. Analytical ability to interpret data and drive improvements.

3. Knowledge of import/export procedures and trade compliance.

4. Proficiency in logistics software, warehouse management systems (WMS), data analysis tools (like Power BI), and standard office software is essential.

5. Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills are crucial. The ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment is also important.

6. Willingness to travel.
