Solar Design Engineer plans and creates blueprints for efficient and cost-effective solar energy systems, from residential rooftops to large-scale solar farms. Key responsibilities include conducting site assessments, using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create system layouts and electrical schematics, calculating energy production, selecting appropriate components, ensuring compliance with regulations, and troubleshooting the design during construction and operation. The role requires a blend of technical knowledge in electrical and mechanical engineering, thermodynamics, and solar technology, along with strong problem-solving and communication skills. Key ResponsibilitiesSite Analysis: Conduct site surveys to gather information on structural features, electrical conditions, and potential obstructions or shadows. System Design: Create detailed designs for solar PV systems, including panel layouts, electrical single-line diagrams, and connection schematics. Component Selection: Select appropriate components such as photovoltaic (PV) modules, inverters, batteries, and mounting structures. Energy Production & Performance Analysis: Estimate energy output and optimize system efficiency through modeling and cost-benefit analysis. CAD and Modeling: Utilize CAD and other specialized software (like PVsyst or Sketchup) to develop accurate 3D models, layouts, and fabrication drawings. Compliance: Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and local regulations. Technical Support: Provide technical support to clients, project managers, and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle. Documentation: Prepare and manage design documents, including master document registers and costings. Required Skills and KnowledgeEngineering Principles: Strong foundation in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and thermodynamics. Solar Technology: Deep understanding of photovoltaic systems, including both grid-connected and off-grid setups. Software Proficiency: Expertise in CAD software (such as AutoCAD), PVsyst, and other solar design and modeling tools. Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze complex data, identify issues, and develop effective solutions. Project Management: Skills in managing project deliverables and collaborating with various stakeholders. Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
