Job Description

Job Title: Software Engineer – Database Internals (3+ Years Experience)

About the Role:

Software Engineer

hands-on engineering role


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and optimize core components of the database engine, including:
  • Storage layer
  • Change data capture
  • Connection management
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues related to performance, memory usage, and concurrency
  • Write clean, efficient, well-tested, and maintainable

    C/C++ code

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to understand and extend database internals
  • Utilize profiling and debugging tools to diagnose and fix bottlenecks in low-level code paths


Requirements:

  • 3+ years

    of experience in systems programming (preferably in

    C/C++

    )
  • Strong understanding of

    operating systems

    concepts:
  • Processes & threads
  • Virtual memory
  • Synchronization mechanisms
  • Solid grasp of

    data structures, algorithms

    , and

    computer architecture

  • Experience in

    debugging and profiling

    low-level code using tools like gdb, perf, etc.
  • Familiarity with:
  • Networking concepts
  • Storage I/O
  • Multithreaded/concurrent programming


Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to

    database internals

    :
  • Query planning and optimization
  • Indexing
  • Storage engines
  • Transaction processing
  • Experience with

    open-source database systems

    (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, RocksDB)
  • Knowledge of

    distributed systems

    and

    consensus protocols

    (e.g., Raft, Paxos)
