Avantor is looking for Software Asset Management Analyst who will be a key member of the IT Service Standards team, responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of software assets across the enterprise. Reporting to the Director of IT Service Standards and working closely with the Workspace Standards team, this role ensures that software is effectively managed from procurement through retirement. The Analyst also maintains the companys IT portfolio, ensuring alignment with business needs, compliance requirements and technology strategy.
With a strong focus on governance, process excellence, and portfolio transparency, the Analyst supports cost efficiency, risk mitigation, and operational maturity in software management.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
- Manage the full software asset lifecycle, ensuring activities such as procurement, deployment, usage tracking, renewal, and retirement are executed either directly or in collaboration with responsible teams.
- Maintain and continuously improve the companys IT software portfolio, ensuring accurate representation of software products, versions, licensing models, and ownership.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Finance, Security, and IT Operations to ensure compliance, cost optimization, and contractual alignment.
- Monitor usage and entitlements to identify opportunities for consolidation, savings, and license reallocation.
- Document, communicate, and enforce software standards and policies across the organization.
- Work with 3rd party SAM vendors to deliver Effective License Position reports on selected software products during renewals.
- Support audits and compliance initiatives with accurate software inventory, license documentation, and usage reporting.
- Maintain relationships with key software vendors, internal stakeholders and 3rd party SAM vendors to stay informed about product changes, licensing updates, and renewal timelines.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that provide visibility into software usage, compliance status, and portfolio health.
- Participate in the evaluation and onboarding of new software solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and IT standards.
- Evaluate, select, and support SAM tool implementation, ensuring appropriate integration with CMDB and other IT systems.
- Act as a subject matter expert for software lifecycle management processes and tools.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
- Provide training and guidance to IT and business teams on SAM best practices.
- Provide asset-related data for investigations or audits beyond SAM scope (e.g. fraud or theft).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
- Bachelors degree in IT , Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Software Asset Management or related discipline.
- Strong understanding of software licensing models (e.g., subscription, perpetual, SaaS, enterprise agreements).
- Experience with SAM tools and platforms (e.g., ServiceNow SAM, Snow Software).
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and software lifecycle management frameworks.
- Exposure to vendor management and contract negotiation is a plus.
- Experience supporting audits and compliance efforts related to software licensing.
- Knowledge of enterprise software products (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, SAP) and their licensing structures.
- Certifications such as CSAM or ITIL Foundation are advantageous.

- Proficiency in Excel, reporting tools, and SAM platforms/CMDBs (especially ServiceNow).
- Excellent documentation and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
- Experience creating and maintaining dashboards using tools like Power BI is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
