Description
The Mainframe Systems Programmer plays a crucial role in providing support for ongoing projects by installing, testing, and implementing new operating systems and other system software. They are responsible for maintenance, debugging, and coordination of IOGEN work for new Mainframe hardware. Additionally, they conduct research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, assist team members with technical inquiries, and resolve problems. Monitoring and tuning of systems software, as well as possessing functional knowledge of z/OS components and detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, and monitoring systems are key responsibilities. The Mainframe Systems Programmer consistently offers formal mentorship, handles high complexity assignments as the owner, moderate complexity assignments as the owner (1 or more), and low complexity assignments by providing oversight/review. They demonstrate leadership in self and others, establish themselves as Product Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) or specialists, and understand how their work aligns with the overall Ensono strategy. Thought leadership within the Global Technology Services (GTS) department is expected from this role. Moreover, the Mainframe Systems Programmer provides technical architecture storage support for hardware and software solutions, communicates effectively in client meetings and new business deals, collaborates directly with hardware and software vendors on new solutions, and reviews current client software and requirements to determine the most cost-effective standard software solution for business proposals. They enhance team performance through mentoring and guidance, design automated monitoring techniques for problem identification and prevention, and provide documented problem analysis, resolution, and prevention, including designing procedures and best practice techniques. Although this position does not have direct reports, the Mainframe Systems Programmer may mentor less experienced associates in the role. Required qualifications include ten years of hands-on industry experience, while preferred qualifications consist of the ability to perform the skill set of a Mainframe System Programmer, complex ISV installations, and leading complex projects. Additionally, the ideal candidate should possess mentoring and leadership qualities.
