Safety Officer

Roles and Responsibilities

1.

• Identify physical, chemical, biological, and organizational hazards.
• Analyze severity and likelihood of risks.
• Implement control measures (engineering, administrative, PPE).
• Continuously monitor and update risk assessments.

• Draft site-specific safety policies and SOPs.
• Ensure integration with RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements).
• Communicate policies effectively to all stakeholders.
• Regularly review and update procedures.

• Conduct safety inductions for new workers.
• Organize toolbox talks and refresher sessions.
• Train on PPE usage, emergency response, and hazardous material handling.
• Maintain training records and evaluate effectiveness.

4.

• Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe acts.
• Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare reports for management and legal compliance.

5.

• Perform daily safety audits and inspections.
• Ensure safe practices in scaffolding, excavation, lifting, and confined spaces.
• Verify adequacy of tools, equipment, and safety systems.

6.

• Develop and implement emergency response plans.
• Conduct mock drills (fire, chemical spill, structural collapse).
• Coordinate with medical and external emergency services.

• Ensure availability and proper use of PPE and safety devices.
• Conduct regular inspections and maintenance.
• Train workers on equipment usage.

8.

• Review and approve subcontractors safety plans.
• Monitor compliance during execution.
• Conduct joint safety meetings and briefings.

9.

• Maintain safety logs, inspection records, and training registers.
• Submit reports to regulatory bodies as required.
• Use documentation for audits and legal defense.

10.

• Interface with OSHA, ISO auditors, and local authorities.
• Stay updated on changes in safety legislation.
• Ensure site compliance with all applicable laws.
