Role PurposeThe Quality Engineer – Press Shop is responsible for ensuring consistent quality of stamped sheet metal components by implementing in-process quality controls, inspection systems, defect prevention, and continuous improvement in line with automotive quality standards.Key Responsibilities1. Incoming & In-Process Quality ControlInspect incoming raw materials:CRCA, HR, GI, Stainless Steel, AluminiumVerify:Thickness, surface finish, coating conditionConduct first-off approval after tool setup or changeoverMonitor in-process inspections at presses and fabrication stages2. Dimensional & Visual InspectionPerform inspections using:Vernier, micrometer, height gauge, dial indicatorsGo/No-Go gaugesChecking fixturesVerify GD&T compliance as per drawingsIdentify defects such as:BurrsCracksWrinklesSpringbackSurface dents and scratches3. Process Control & Quality SystemsImplement and maintain:Control PlansProcess Flow DiagramsWork InstructionsMonitor SPC for critical dimensionsEnsure process capability (Cp, Cpk) targets are met4. Problem Solving & Corrective ActionsLead and support:Root Cause Analysis (Why-Why, Fishbone)Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA)Coordinate with:ProductionTool RoomMaintenanceReduce rejection, rework, and customer complaints5. PPAP & Customer RequirementsSupport PPAP documentation for press shop parts:Dimensional reportsMSAPFMEAControl PlanEnsure compliance with:Customer-specific requirementsAutomotive standards (IATF 16949)6.
