Plant EHS Officer

Job Summary

The Plant EHS Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure the plant's compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. This role is crucial in promoting a strong safety culture, preventing accidents and injuries, and minimizing environmental impact. The EHS Officer will lead initiatives in risk assessment, incident investigation, training, and emergency response, serving as a key resource for all plant employees on EHS matters.

Key Responsibilities

• EHS Program Management:

• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with regulatory requirements and company standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, unsafe acts, and non-compliance issues.
• Prepare and manage required EHS documentation and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

• Risk Assessment and Incident Investigation:

• Perform comprehensive risk assessments (e.g., Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment - HIRA) for all plant processes, machinery, and activities.
• Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain an accurate incident reporting system and analyze data to identify trends and continuous improvement opportunities.

• Training and Communication:

• Develop and deliver engaging EHS training programs for new and existing employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Ensure all employees are knowledgeable about safety policies, emergency procedures, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Lead and facilitate plant safety committee meetings to encourage employee involvement and feedback on EHS initiatives.

• Emergency Preparedness:

• Create and maintain site-specific emergency response plans for various scenarios (e.g., fire, chemical spills, medical emergencies).
• Organize and conduct regular emergency drills and training exercises.
• Serve as a key member of the plant's emergency response team.

• Environmental Compliance:

• Monitor and manage the plant's hazardous waste program, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal in compliance with environmental regulations.
• Oversee air, water, and waste emissions monitoring to ensure compliance with permits and standards.
• Identify and implement opportunities for reducing the plant's environmental footprint through waste reduction, energy conservation, and resource efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• [Minimum of 3-5] years of experience in an EHS role, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory standards.
• [Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar professional certification is a plus].
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Proven ability to conduct effective training and motivate behavioral change.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, and navigate all areas of a manufacturing plant.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Comfortable working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
