Role Overview

Planning & Logistics Manager

Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)

A. Planning Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement detailed production plans aligned with demand forecasts and inventory levels to ensure optimal resource utilization and on-time delivery.
  2. Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Maintain production schedules, capacity plans, and resource allocation to minimize downtime and optimize workflows.
  3. Collaborate with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and sales teams to ensure production alignment with business goals and customer requirements.
  4. Manage production schedules, ensuring adherence to deadlines while accommodating demand fluctuations. Identify and eliminate bottlenecks through data-driven analysis.
  5. Utilize advanced planning tools and systems (MRP/ERP) to improve accuracy, forecasting, and efficiency. Prepare and present production performance reports to senior management.
  6. Lead continuous improvement initiatives by implementing lean manufacturing principles to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

B. Logistics Responsibilities

  1. Supply Chain Planning & Management:

    Strategically plan and oversee logistics, warehousing, transportation, and customer service to optimize the complete order cycle.
  2. Inventory Control:

    Monitor and manage inventory levels of raw materials, components, and finished goods, ensuring alignment with production needs and customer demand. Conduct periodic audits and cycle counts for accuracy.
  3. Transportation Management:

    Select carriers, support contract negotiations, and plan optimal transport routes to balance delivery speed, cost, and efficiency.
  4. Warehouse Operations:

    Supervise warehouse activities including receiving, storage, material handling, picking, packing, and dispatch of goods.
  5. Vendor & Supplier Management:

    Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and third-party logistics (3PL) partners to ensure timely material availability and service quality.
  6. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    Work closely with manufacturing, procurement, sales, and quality teams to integrate logistics operations with overall business objectives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Optimize resource allocation, including workforce planning and material management. Lead and mentor planning and logistics teams, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
  • Implement cost-reduction and efficiency-improvement initiatives to enhance production performance.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent stock shortages or overstocking.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety (HSE), and ISO standards across logistics and warehouse operations.
  • Oversee team performance, training, and development to ensure safe and productive work practices.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to shipments, inventory discrepancies, or delivery delays.
  • Track and analyze performance metrics such as transport costs, delivery timelines, and stock accuracy to identify and implement process improvements.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong proficiency in

    MRP/ERP systems

    (preferably SAP) and

    advanced Excel

    for planning and data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong data-driven mindset.
  • Experience in a

    fast-paced manufacturing environment

    , ideally in the

    automotive or engineering industry

    .
  • Knowledge of

    lean manufacturing

    and

    continuous improvement methodologies

    .
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to perform under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.

Qualification & Experience

  • Education:

    B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering
  • Preferred:

    MBA/PGDM in Operations, Supply Chain, or Logistics Management
  • Experience:

    Minimum

    10 years

    of experience in Production Planning, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management within a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred).
