Job Description

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for managing the hospital pharmacy operations to ensure the safe, effective, and economical use of medications. The role includes ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements and NABH standards, maintaining quality assurance, and overseeing the performance of the pharmacy team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pharmacy Operations Management

  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of inpatient, outpatient, and satellite pharmacies.
  • Ensure accurate dispensing of drugs as per physician prescriptions and adherence to hospital protocols.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of pharmaceuticals, surgical consumables, and other items to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Monitor expiry dates and ensure proper storage and handling of drugs.
  • Implement and monitor cost-effective drug procurement and inventory management systems.

2. NABH & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with

    NABH standards

    Drugs & Cosmetics Act

    , and other applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary documentation and records for

    NABH audits

    .
  • Coordinate and participate in

    internal and external NABH audits

    ; address non-conformities and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct periodic

    self-assessments

    and audits to maintain continuous readiness for accreditation.
  • Maintain proper documentation for controlled substances, narcotics, and high-risk drugs as per statutory requirements.

3. Quality Assurance & Patient Safety

  • Establish and monitor

    Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

    for all pharmacy-related activities.
  • Ensure medication safety practices including reporting and analysis of medication errors and adverse drug reactions (ADR).
  • Work with the Quality Department to ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
  • Support implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs and rational drug use initiatives.

4. Team Leadership & Training

  • Supervise and mentor pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for staff on NABH standards, drug safety, and pharmacy operations.
  • Evaluate staff performance and identify training needs.

5. Coordination & Reporting

  • Liaise with medical, nursing, and administrative departments for seamless coordination of pharmacy services.
  • Prepare periodic reports on drug consumption, cost analysis, and audit findings.
  • Participate in hospital committees such as the

    Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (PTC)

    ,

    Infection Control Committee

    , etc.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:

    B.Pharm / M.Pharm / Pharm.D
  • Experience:

    Minimum 5–10 years of experience in hospital pharmacy, with at least 2–3 years in a managerial/supervisory role.
  • Preferred:

    Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals and knowledge of accreditation requirements.

Skills & Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, formulary management, and drug regulations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to handle audits and compliance documentation independently.
  • Proficiency in hospital information systems (HIS) and inventory management software
