Assessment Phase:

• Physical site survey of each factory location

• Inventory of network devices (switches, access points, wireless devices, ISP links)

• Identification of services/applications using ISP links (users, cameras, IoT, production systems) via discussions with the stakeholders

• Determine bandwidth utilization of ISP links

• Review of switch/router/firewall configurations to establish routing and traffic flows

• Evaluation of centralized hub/firewall capacity to handle aggregated traffic

• Consultation with Factory IT staff, End-users, Third-party providers (ISPs, equipment vendors) to determine the setup which is dependent on the ISP links

• Review of existing physical and the logical design documents to plan for the migration

Design Phase:

• Migration approach and runbook creation per site

• Identify traffic flows to be redirected through firewall

• Recommend additional bandwidth/firewall resources if required

• Document revised network topology for each location for the WAN connectivity

• Document dependencies, risks and timelines

Pilot Phase:

• Select 1–2 representative factory sites for pilot migration

• Conduct full assessment, migration, and validation as per methodology

• Identify gaps, risks, or unforeseen challenges during pilot

• Refine runbooks, checklists, and timelines based on pilot results

• Obtain stakeholder approval before full-scale rollout

Migration Phase:

• Cutover for LAN and WLAN setup from local ISP link to a connection behind a firewall

• Post-migration validation (connectivity, application availability, service checks)

• Configuration of firewalls for revised connectivity

• Configuration at the hub end if needed

• User acceptance and handover
