Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Underwriting Support Analyst to join the Consumer Direct team. The ideal candidate will review, analyze, and underwrite U.S. residential mortgage loans, ensuring strict adherence to internal and regulatory guidelines. The role requires a strong understanding of the 4 Cs of underwriting – Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital – along with practical experience in risk evaluation, compliance, and documentation review.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate mortgage loan applications to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal, investor, and regulatory standards.
- Analyze supporting financial and non-financial documentation including income, credit, assets, liabilities, and property appraisals.
- Independently assess risk and make underwriting decisions in line with FHA, VA, Conventional, and Correspondent lending guidelines.
- Issue final underwriting approvals on mortgage loans including FHA, VA, Reverse Mortgage, and Conventional products.
- Sign off on underwriting conditions within established timelines.
- Maintain effective communication with loan processors, advisors, and internal stakeholders.
- Utilize systems such as Encompass to manage and process loans efficiently.
- Support continuous improvement by providing recommendations on underwriting best practices when requested.
- Complete required forms and documentation accurately and on time.
- Participate in office-based training and meetings as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (minimum 15 years of formal education required).
- Minimum 1 year of experience in U.S. residential mortgage underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of income calculations for both salaried and self-employed borrowers.
- Familiarity with risk and compliance policies in U.S. lending – specifically FNMA (Fannie Mae) and FHLMC (Freddie Mac) underwriting standards.
- Proficient in reviewing and verifying documentation such as credit reports, property appraisals, income and asset statements.
- Hands-on experience in underwriting across multiple loan types: Conventional, Correspondent, FHA, VA, and Reverse Mortgage.
Work Requirements
- Willingness to work in any shift, including night shifts, as required by the business.
- Must be able to commute to the office for training, performance reviews, or any business-related requirement.
Preferred Availability
- Immediate joiners or candidates serving notice periods and available to join in August or September are strongly preferred.
Target Candidate Background
Candidates with experience in
BPOs, financial services, or specialized underwriting teams
within mortgage processing are ideal. Experience with underwriting platforms such as Encompass is a plus.
