Job Description

The Monitoring Engineer will be responsible for round-the-clock monitoring of IT infrastructure components, including servers, virtual environments, backup systems, and network devices, using enterprise monitoring tools and dashboards. The engineer will proactively identify and report critical alerts, raise tickets in the IT ticketing system, and coordinate with internal support teams for timely resolution. The role also includes daily reporting and escalation of high-priority issues to customers via calls and emails.
Requirements
  • Monitor dashboards and alerts from monitoring tools for servers, virtual infrastructure, backups, and network devices.
  • Log in to virtual infrastructure (VMware), backup console (Commvault), and network devices (switches/firewalls) to verify health status and alert conditions.
  • Identify and validate critical and major alerts, raise tickets in the ITSM/ticketing tool, and assign them to the respective in-house support teams.
  • Escalate critical alerts to customers promptly through email and phone calls as per defined SLAs.
  • Maintain a shift-wise incident log and ensure proper handover between shifts.
  • Prepare and share daily monitoring and incident summary reports with stakeholders.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for incident reporting, escalation, and ticket management.
  • Support ongoing improvement of monitoring dashboards and alert tuning in coordination with internal teams.
  • Participate in periodic review meetings and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Monitoring Tools:

    Hands-on experience with any enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix, Nagios, ManageEngine, etc.).
  • Virtualization:

    Basic knowledge of VMware infrastructure, including ESXi and vCenter access.
  • Backup:

    Understanding of Commvault backup console and basic job monitoring.
  • Networking:

    Ability to log in to network switches and firewalls for basic health and interface status checks.
  • Ticketing Tools:

    Experience in using ITSM/ticketing tools like ServiceNow, ManageEngine, Remedy, or similar.
  • Reporting:

    Strong skills in Excel and report preparation.
  • Communication:

    Good verbal and written communication skills for customer interaction and incident reporting.

Qualifications:

  • 1–3 years of experience in IT infrastructure monitoring or NOC operations (freshers with strong technical aptitude may also be considered).
  • Basic understanding of ITIL processes will be an added advantage.
