The GIS Specialist will be instrumental in incorporating geographic information systems into urban design initiatives. As an integral part of our Planning and Urban Design team, this role involves delivering technical expertise to handle large geospatial datasets and supporting a range of projects through spatial data analysis and visualization to guide design strategies. The ideal candidate will be skilled in satellite imagery interpretation and spatial data visualization. Additionally, they will contribute technical inputs to support internal consultants, the wider Dar Group, and external collaborators. Responsibilities Data Collection Processing: Collect, process, and validate geographic data from diverse sources, such as satellite imagery, aerial photographs, field surveys, and open data platforms, ensuring high standards of accuracy and integrity. Ensure data workflows are scalable, secure, and compliant with organizational and industry standards. Advanced Spatial Analysis: Conduct complex spatial analyses to identify trends, patterns, and spatial relationships that inform urban planning, infrastructure design, and landscape strategies. Employ spatial statistics, geospatial analysis, and predictive modelling techniques to address project-specific challenges. Mapping, Visualization, and web-based tools: Preparation of high-quality GIS mapping and creating presentations, diagrams, technical drawings, and other deliverables and ensuring that they are submitted on time and to the highest quality achievable; Create and manage interactive web maps, story maps, and 3D GIS applications using tools like ArcGIS Online and Enterprise. Processing satellite imagery analysis and spatial data visualization. Overseeing the planning and coordination of GIS activities to meet the outlined goals. Overseeing data flow, management, and distribution activities that are aimed at supporting GIS. Supporting and participating in the designing and development of the geospatial database. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate geospatial documentation for reference purposes. Supporting in the development of a work plan for complex projects. Efficiently managing geospatial database and developing effective maps and aerial photography. Ensure seamless liaison with the London Office. Availability to work flexible late hours in order to align with the London office is essential. i.e. availability to work 1pm to 8pm working hours on certain days, when required, is essential. Mandatory Qualifications and Work Experience Required A bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification in geographical information systems (GIS), geography or computer sciences. Must have a minimum of 3 years' work experience Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with departmental staff and the management. Experience in ESRI product suite (ArcGIS online, Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro) Experience in creating web maps, story maps, and 3D GIS web apps. Familiarity with Rhino/Grasshopper and Python programming. High analytical thinking to effectively analyze information and databases. Must have worked extensively with Raster data and satellite imagery Must have a sound understanding of image classification. Accuracy and attention to detail is mandatory Good to have Understanding of Geo statistics is an added advantage. Good knowledge on programming like Python, JavaScript. Basic scripting knowledge for data processing and test automation, particularly in Python, with a willingness to learn and develop it further. Show more Show less
