Manager - Urban WASH

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Oversight

• Lead the Urban WASH team’s strategic direction, setting clear goals and mapping practical pathways to achieve them.
• Develop and manage operational plans for a team of 10+ people, ensuring each vertical has clear priorities and delivers results.
• Stay informed about the evolving urban sanitation and WASH landscape in India, ensuring our work remains relevant and inclusive.
• Build and nurture partnerships across the sector to advance programme goals and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  

Operational Support

• Ensure consistent and high-quality implementation of team objectives and initiatives.
• Lead stakeholder engagement – from identifying potential partners, presenting at meetings, and preparing proposals, to closing opportunities.
• Manage relationships with NGO partners and identify new avenues for sector-level partnerships.
• Oversee reporting, record-keeping, and financial data management with accuracy and confidentiality.
  

People Management

• Build the skills and capacity of team members and consultants to deliver impactful, high-quality work.
• Collaborate across verticals to design and execute projects that create meaningful sector impact.
• Provide ongoing mentorship, guidance, and leadership, setting a strong example in work ethic and commitment.
• Establish processes that enable high performance and provide day-to-day support when needed.
  

Desired Skills & Experience

• Minimum 10 years of work experience in programme management, advisory, client relationship management, or related fields.
• Experience working with senior leaders across diverse backgrounds, with the ability to clearly communicate value propositions.
• Excellent listening skills, able to understand and reflect different perspectives.
• Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
• Prior experience independently managing a team or division with full accountability.
• An analytical, solution-oriented approach, capable of handling complex activities and challenges.
• Strategic and innovative thinking, with the ability to adapt to evolving sector trends.
• Strong people management skills, fostering collaboration, accountability, and mentorship.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills, focused on delivering high-quality outputs on time.
• Ability to work under pressure and on tight timelines with a positive attitude and a commitment to creating long-term, tangible impact.
