Job Description

Job Title: Manager / Sr. Manager / AGM Logistics & Contract Management

Position Overview:

This role will lead end-to-end logistics operations, including domestic transportation, chemical-compliant warehousing, import & export operations, vendor management and contract governance. The role ensures safe, compliant, cost-efficient and timely movement of chemicals across global and domestic supply chains while maintaining adherence to Indian and international regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Logistics & Supply Chain Planning

  • Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with specialty chemical business requirement.
  • Build annual logistics budgets, cost-optimization strategies and capacity planning models.

2. Domestic Transportation Management

  • Manage domestic movement of chemicals in bulk, drums, IBCs, tankers, ISO tanks and pallets.
  • Enforce compliance with:

o MSIHC Rules, Hazardous Waste Management Rules

o PESO and state transport regulations

o Vehicle fitness, driver certification, route risk assessment

  • Implement GPS tracking, e-POD, safety protocols and emergency response systems.

3. Import & Export Operations

  • Manage import & export logistics for raw materials & finished goods
  • Manage coordination with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines and customs brokers (CHAs).
  • Oversee documentation: Bill of Lading, COO, MSDS, Packing List, Invoice, Import Licenses, Chemical regulatory documentation.
  • Plan timely clearance, bonded warehousing (if applicable), duty calculations and compliance with DGFT/Customs laws.
  • Coordinate with CHA, freight forwarders, 3PLs and shipping lines to ensure vessel bookings, container planning, DG approvals and route optimization.
  • Oversee export documentation:

o Shipping Bill, Invoice, Packing List

o DG declarations, MSDS, UN certifications

o REACH/TSCA/SDS regulatory documents for relevant countries

  • Ensure export compliance with:

o IMDG Code, IATA (for air), DGFT regulations

  • Handle pre-shipment inspections, container sealing, VGM filing and export incentive schemes.

4. Contract Management

Lead negotiation, drafting and management of contracts for:

o Transporters (hazardous goods specialists)

o Freight forwarders (air/sea)

o Customs house agents (CHA)

o CFS/ICD operators

o 3PL warehouse partners

  • Define KPIs, SLAs, safety obligations, liability clauses, insurance norms, rate agreements, penalty frameworks and service-level expectations.
  • Ensure all contracts comply with GST, Customs, DGFT, chemical handling norms and international shipping regulations.
  • Manage disputes, claims, demurrage, detention and insurance settlements.

5. Internal Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with production, procurement, planning, QA/QC, finance and EHS departments.
  • Provide logistics visibility and updates to management on supply chain risks, import delays, export bottlenecks and compliance issues.

6. Cost Optimization & KPI Governance

  • Monitor key metrics:

o Freight cost/MT

o Vessel/air freight utilization

o Customs clearance lead time

o OTIF (imports/exports/domestic movement)

  • Lead cost-saving and process-improvement initiatives across transport, warehousing, customs clearance and export planning.
  • Prepare MIS reports, dashboards and leadership presentations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or Logistics & Supply Chain. MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain/Operations preferred.
  • 10 - 15 years of logistics experience in the chemical industry is preferred.
  • Mandatory: Experience in import & export operations, DG cargo handling and international shipping regulations.
  • Strong background in contract management and vendor governance.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of IMDG, IATA-DGR, MSDS, UN certification and DG packaging norms.
  • In-depth understanding of customs processes, DGFT, EPCG, export incentive schemes, CFS/ICD operations.
  • Proficiency with SAP/ERP, TMS, WMS and logistics analytics tools.
  • Strong command of chemical handling, hazardous goods regulations and safety standards.
