Job Description

Position SummaryThe Manager, Pre-Press & Color Management leads the Prepress Department in all aspects of file preparation, color standardization, and workflow innovation. This role oversees daily operations, mentors staff, and ensures exceptional print readiness through tools like Packz, Hybrid, and related technologies. As a cross-functional collaborator and customer-facing liaison, the Manager plays a critical role in client audits, press approvals, and internal quality initiatives.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Prepress Department and lead a team of Prepress Technicians.
  • Drive innovation in digital workflows using Packz, Hybrid, and other prepress systems.
  • Standardize ink, ink color, and plate setups to align with press performance and quality targets.
  • Serve as a key participant in client audits, technical reviews, and press approvals.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and IT departments to optimize prepress processes.
  • Mentor, train, and support prepress staff to enhance technical knowledge and workflow efficiency.
  • Ensure file creation, naming, plating, and layout follow documented SOPs.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot prepress equipment.
  • Own all workflow software configurations, layout documentation, and optimization procedures.
  • Strategically schedule workload and staffing to maximize throughput and minimize errors.
  • Assist with high-complexity or technically challenging projects as needed.
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives including software implementation and quality programs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant technical certifications or coursework preferred.
  • 5–7 years of experience in prepress operations, with 3–5 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of flexographic and digital printing processes.

Technical and Computer Skills

  • Proficient in graphics and packaging software including Packz, Hybrid, ESKO, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
  • Skilled in layout design, job ticket preparation, and RIP troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel and Word.

Other Requirements

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams effectively and maintain high-performance standards.
  • Experience interacting with clients and auditors.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
