Manager - DB (Oracle, PostgreSQL)

We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager with strong expertise in Database Administration of PostgreSQL / EDB and Oracle environments. The role involves full-lifecycle database management, performance tuning, automation, security, migration, and high-availability support for mission-critical systems. This is a customer-facing, hands-on technical role requiring ownership of uptime, performance, and stability across multiple database platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL, EDB, and Oracle databases.
• Manage database objects (schemas, indexes, triggers, views) and storage structures.
• Administer users, roles, privileges, and enforce security standards.
• Perform proactive performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
• Configure and maintain high-availability solutions
• Implement and validate regular backups, recovery processes, DR plans, and conduct failover drills.
• Ensure database uptime, reliability, and SLA compliance across client projects.
• Monitor database health, performance metrics, and system stability.
• Troubleshoot issues across development, staging, and production environments.
• Analyze root causes of recurring issues and implement preventive solutions.
• Maintain change control processes, test changes, and document all modifications.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support as part of a rotation.
• Create custom automation scripts using Ansible, PSQL, PowerShell, SQL, PL/SQL, and other tools.
• Automate provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, and cloud/containerized deployments.
• Manage schema-level migrations using utilities like pg_export/pg_import, ORA2PG, etc.
• Perform database version upgrades and cross-platform migrations.
• Use ORA2PG or similar tools for PostgreSQL migration to/from other relational systems.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive DR procedures.
• Ensure backups meet RPO/RTO requirements.
• Implement robust security policies and respond to security incidents.
• Work closely with developers, engineers, and architects to optimize queries and improve database design.
• Participate in design reviews and provide database best-practice guidance.
• Attend client calls, solution workshops, and operational meetings.
• Generate daily/weekly/monthly operational reports and checklists.
• Maintain clear documentation for configurations, troubleshooting, SOPs, recovery protocols, and playbooks.
• Ensure adherence to documentation standards across the team.
