Job Profile: Manager – Audit & Taxation (International Clients)

Managing audit and taxation for overseas clients requires a sophisticated understanding of cross-border regulations, Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAA), and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This role is central to a firm’s global operations, ensuring that clients operating across different jurisdictions remain compliant and tax-efficient.

1. Position Overview

  • Role: Manager – Audit & Taxation (Global Services)
  • Focus Jurisdictions: [e.g., Middle East, US, UK, EU, ]
  • Core Purpose: To lead the delivery of high-quality audit and tax advisory services to a portfolio of international clients, navigating the complexities of multiple legal systems and time zones.

2. Strategic Responsibilities

Global Audit & Assurance

  • Multi-Jurisdictional Audits: Oversee statutory audits for foreign subsidiaries, ensuring alignment between local GAAP and parent company reporting requirements (IFRS/US GAAP).
  • Remote Audit Management: Utilize digital audit tools and cloud-based ERPs to conduct thorough risk assessments and substantive testing across different geographic locations.
  • Consolidation: Assist clients in the complex process of consolidating accounts from various foreign entities into a single functional currency.

International Taxation & Transfer Pricing

  • Cross-Border Compliance: Manage the filing of foreign tax returns and ensure compliance with "nexus" rules and permanent establishment risks.
  • Transfer Pricing (TP): Lead the preparation of Local Files and Master Files; ensure that inter-company transactions (services, royalties, interest) are at arm's length.
  • Withholding Tax (WHT): Advise on WHT implications for international payments and help clients leverage DTAA benefits to prevent double taxation.

Client Relationship & Advisory

  • Inbound/Outbound Strategy: Advise clients on the tax implications of expanding into new territories or restructuring global operations.
  • Regulation Monitoring: Stay ahead of global shifts such as BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) and Pillar Two global minimum tax requirements.

Certifications: CA (Inter) is mandatory.

Software Proficiency: Experience with global ERPs (NetSuite, SAP, Zoho, Quick Books, Tally Prime) and audit software.

4. Operational Workflow

The workflow for overseas clients involves a critical bridge phase where local financial data is converted and adjusted to meet international reporting standards before the audit or tax filing commences.

5. Soft Skills for Global Engagement

  • Cultural Intelligence: Ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and understand varying business etiquettes.
  • Time Zone Management: Flexibility to manage deliverables and meetings across varying time zones (e.g., EST, GMT, GST).
  • Complex Problem Solving: Navigating "gray areas" where laws from two different countries might conflict.

6. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Global Compliance Rating: 100% timely filing across all client jurisdictions.
  • Effective Tax Rate (ETR) Management: Success in implementing structures that legally optimize the client's global ETR.
  • Client Retention: High satisfaction scores from overseas stakeholders.

Realization Rate: Maintaining profitability on fixed-fee international engagements through efficient resource management.
