Lead Engineer Generator (Owners Engineer Role)

Job Purpose

To lead the engineering review and technical assurance of the Generator package and its auxiliaries provided by the EPC contractor. This role ensures compliance with Owners specifications, international standards, and project requirements during design, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning phases of a thermal power plant.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and approve generator technical documents, including specifications, datasheets, GA drawings, excitation system documents, and cooling system designs.
• Ensure the generator design meets performance guarantees, reliability, and maintainability standards.
• Verify generator integration with steam turbine and balance of plant systems, including lube oil, seal oil, hydrogen/air/water cooling, and excitation.
• Evaluate and comment on vendor documentation, ensuring compliance with contractual technical requirements.
• Lead or participate in design review meetings with EPC and OEMs.
• Coordinate interfaces between generator and turbine systems, generator protection systems, and electrical control systems.
• Provide engineering guidance during manufacturing, FAT, inspection stages, and site activities (installation, alignment, testing, commissioning).
• Raise and resolve technical queries (TQs) with EPC and suppliers.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to generator performance, quality, or safety throughout the project lifecycle.
• Interface with other domain engineers such as electrical, I&C, turbine, and layout to ensure proper integration.
• Maintain documentation logs, provide progress updates, and ensure timely engineering deliverables.

Required Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
• 12+ years of experience in generator engineering for large thermal power projects (500 MW and above).
• Prior experience with OEMs like BHEL, GE, Siemens, or similar, and knowledge of vendor documentation requirements.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

• In-depth understanding of synchronous generator construction, design, excitation systems, and auxiliaries.
• Familiarity with hydrogen and water-cooled generator designs.
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (IEC, IEEE, ASME, ISO, etc.).
• Understanding of rotor dynamics, electrical protection systems, and cooling methodologies.
