Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear

Job Overview:

The Mechanical Design Engineer for Medium Voltage Switchgear is responsible for designing and developing the mechanical components, enclosures, and assemblies of MV switchgear. This includes ensuring mechanical stability, safety, and compliance with industry standards. The role involves close collaboration with electrical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to create reliable and efficient designs that meet client and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Mechanical Design and Development

• Design and develop mechanical components for MV switchgear, including enclosures, frames, busbar supports, and ventilation systems.
• Create detailed CAD models, technical drawings, and assembly instructions to guide manufacturing and assembly processes.

2. Thermal Management and Ventilation

• Design ventilation systems and implement thermal management solutions to ensure that internal temperatures remain within safe operational limits.
• Perform thermal simulations to assess heat dissipation and optimize the design for efficient airflow and cooling.

3. Compliance with Industry Standards

• Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, such as IEC, ANSI, and UL, and meet client specifications and local regulatory requirements.
• Conduct safety assessments and incorporate features to mitigate risks related to electrical faults, arc flash, and mechanical failure.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure that mechanical designs integrate seamlessly with electrical components.
• Provide technical support during the manufacturing, assembly, and installation phases, troubleshooting mechanical issues and assisting with adjustments.

5. Documentation and Reporting

• Prepare comprehensive documentation, including design reports, material lists, assembly instructions, and maintenance guides.
• Maintain records of design revisions and support product lifecycle management (PLM) processes.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within the MV switchgear.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g.,Autodesk Inventor or similar)
• Strong knowledge of Sheet metal design

Skills and Competencies:

• Detail-oriented with a strong understanding of mechanical design principles, structural integrity, and material properties.
• Familiarity with industry standards like IEC, ANSI, and UL relevant to MV switchgear and power systems.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional collaboration.
